Pikes Peak racing is such a awesome event. It so much fun seeing the creative engineering and problem solving that goes into the different cars at this event. Also I love that the wide variety of classes allow for so many unique approaches to the same ultimate goal of getting up the mountain as fast as possible.

I love Pikes Peak. The lack of rules makes for a perfect diversity of philosophy. Yet the friendly collaborative environment makes everyone a winner. I slightly preferred this approach. Seeing the wide range of cars and ideas was cool and I think Pikes Peak specifically benefits from the broad approach. Though obviously the in depth rollercoaster following the record breaking attempt had its own benefits. My dream would be two videos next year with one of each approach, but back in the world of reality I presume your time constraints (including the need for enjoyment time) would limit only one. If so I'd vote for the broad approach with a few more specifics on each car, but obviously following only the sendy club was more than enough to bring me watching again this year.

I was there! Walking around the pits was my favorite part, just the atmosphere and seeing the huge diversity of cars. One Swedish dude brought an essentially unchanged rally car, so it still had the squishy suspension and was so fun to watch go by but in the pits he was talking to spectators and at one point sat on his front lip and explained that even though they look fragile they have to be strong because they create 500 kilos of downforce.

I just want you to know, my dad (also a Matt) doesn't watch youtube and doesn't generally like performance car content like I do, but works on everything from work trucks to farm equipment and loves to learn about almost anything like me (last night we learned about exhaust pulse/scavenging), and I may have waited on purpose to play some of your videos now and then while he was around. Turns out he highly rates your sense of humor as do I. We love how informative you are in a way that can present all the essential and exciting details on a topic and your experiences that can engage and inform people outside of the target audience easily, a sweet spot between not too exhausting and not too mind numbing. It is kind of great that the altitude and low end torque advantages of an electric drivetrain are perfectly balanced out by the handicap of heavy batteries, making electric and combustion neck and neck at Pike's Peak with current tech

I was up at devil's playground 2018 and 2019. Two of the most wild experiences of my life. If anyone ever gets the chance to go to the Pikes Peak race definitely do it. In 2018 I did not realize I was witnessing one of the fastest cars to hold the hill climb record for years to come. Seeing that downforce cloud of dust behind the IDR was insane. Loved the experience so much I brought my Dad next year and we went up to devil's playground together in my supercharged 370z. Hid in it while it hailed. Hailed the year before as well. Weather changes very quickly on top of a mountain. No joke bring those little oxygen tanks if you go, at 13k feet just walking around to an area to sit and watch the race is difficult. For sure bring food and water. Maybe a tent or umbrella to block the sun. There are plenty of porta potties but other than that you are stranded on top of the mountain for a full day. Cannot leave otherwise they would have to stop the race for you. It is a wild test of endurance for the spectators. You have to be there so early to start the climb up the mountain... completely in darkness. You all sit in parking lots half sleeping waiting to be let up the hill. When it is time to go up everyone is excited. I think in 2018 a guy in a little MR2 or Miata was revving his motor next to me when it was time to go up. He was a little too excited. A little later we all passed him while his car sat upside down on the side of the road. That road is insanely dangerous. Leave the racing to the race drivers. I was there to witness the last year for motorcyclists....that was truly heartbreaking. Seeing Carlin Dunne blaze by only to fatally crash moments later. These guys really put everything on the line to set a record. So much respect for these racers.

I'm Greg Blachon's, father-in-law--a factor that now makes me famous or at least related to a famous person, well at least related to the wife of a famous person. I've watched Greg work on his race cars here in Nashville for 10 years, and he has lovingly tried a hundred times (based on an average of 10 tries per year) to explain the details. I can tell you that a PhD in physics isn't enough to help a person understand half of all that complicated stuff. In fact, I can prove that because I have a PhD in physics, and I still don't understand it all. You helped. Thanks!

The Ford Supervans have an interesting history. The one appearing at Pikes Peak was the second iteration of the electric Supervan which itself was the the forth, hense 4.2. However the first van dates back to the early seventies and was built in the UK. They basically dropped a MK1 Transit onto a GT40 chassis, the second which popped up in the 80's built on the Ford C100 race car chassi and powered by a Cosworth DFL V8. Supervan 3 came along mid 90's though was based around the second iteration. However gone was the Cosworth DFL V8, replaced with the more powerful Cosworth HB Formula 1 engine. I've seen all three in action but the original is still my favourite, mainly because it's something I would do if I had a GT40 chassi and an old transit sitting in my back yard. lol

When you were talking about the diesel entries, you mentioned some of them were running automatic transmissions, even though one team didn't like calling it that. Driving a truck for a job, I know what it (probably) is, but thought I'd share with the rest of you: an Automated Manual Transmission Regular automatic gearboxes are built entirely differently than standard transmissions. I don't know enough about the mechanics and engineering of it to explain well and worry I might get something wrong, but know that tractor trucks almost exclusively run Manual or Auto-Manual transmissions. Just thought I'd through it out there
