Great racing and 4 years ago , hydrofoil experience that other countries haven’t been getting . It’s not surprising the Aussies are the top boat in the ‘SailGP’ super series! Cheers Warren

A wonderful demonstration of technology in general, as we are watching this sailing race from on the boats at times, as well as with helicopters, long telephoto lenses, and audio from the crews. Oh, yeah, the boats! Or foilers, or missiles, or hydrofoils, or whatever they are called, those things are incredible, with speeds of 30 knots (55 kph) in winds of 20 - 25 knots. Trust the Australians to run Formula One and kiddy races on the same track at the same time! That is what this is, the new Formula One of inshore racing.

That is one hell of a race, made even more complex with so many other boats disrupting the lanes, water and air. Are such races always held amid a stream of what amounts to 'moving barriers'?

It had to be in Australia, who else would run a race with boats that can touch 50 and allow all those little boats to be all over the place, if ever there was an accident waiting to happen its got to be this, and at those speeds it will be one hell of an accident, clearly if one of thexe boats hit you it would near cut you in half. What really got me is that those people out there just messing around can see one of these tri hulls coming down on them, and they still refuse to get out the way. I really am amazed at this it really is dangerous to the limit, surely they could ask the small boats to stay well clear of the race, its not as if it lasts all day. I am also amazed that racing has come to almost flying there is so little of the boat in the water, mind you i also noticed how quickly they come to a stop if you dig the bow in, its almost like an instant stop, i have seen one somewhere else actually summersult after doing it so its not for the faint hearted.

Was doing saftey boat work in Sydney for the mirror worlds over new year. The traffic is absolutely insane. So many boats, so much wash, n those Manley ferries, terrifying. Absolute bulldozers. The natives have such an advantage. And id say 70% of the powerboaters are prize dickholes. Sailboats less so, but the number of 'what were you thinking!?!' Moments were more in that week than my last 30 years on the water.

not good foil design ! While the one side foil produces the lifting force, the other side foil should provide the inverse, deepening force. Both side foils can do it automatically stabilizing the hight of the boat over the water surface!

I love these foil regattas but quite frankly this seems stupid when the supposed race happen right in the middle of the Harbour where clearly none of the traffic is controlled. The boaters are all over the place, crossing the path of the race boats. If you are going to organize a race, at least do it properly and make sure no one from outside the race can just cross it and bring some of the contestants to a full stop. Can you imagine yachties crossing path in the middle of an America's Cup race? "Just passing by, thank you!"

Great video editing. I thought narration would help with a sport I'm not familiar with. But, sadly no. The announcers are awful. I would've turned the sound off but then I can't hear the wind. Way too much traffic for this event to be held. I guess this event will be stopped once some boat loaded with a happy family gets speared and sunk. Cheers!

Thank you for your feedback. We will take your comments into consideration for Season 2. With regards to the traffic on the harbour, all of the public's boats are are informed of the event prior to setting sail, it is therefore their choice to be on the harbour at the heart of the action during our races.

Wow, and Woe. Great racing and boat-handling challenges, but as a promotional piece, this needs work, IMHO. The commentators had a fair grip (except the over-hyping and irrelevancies from the woman) but we got too much of a disjointed picture. When we spectate we like to look at particular battles, and zoom out to gauge the complete scene, then zoom in on something again, not necessarily the same as before. Overtaking down the fleet can be just as exciting as a Messianic dedication to the top two or three. Variety, including the excellent, but not only, plus TGSOT. Media planning, presentation, needs a lot of attention, IMO. Take a story, and edit in connected links. Story = event + event + result, even if it's a sub-story somewhere in the middle. 'Look at this... Meanwhile...'. As in a movie, there can be many simultaneous threads and jumps between, but each deserves its own continuity, ultimately, and purpose or conclusion. The sprint for the line is an example: the black boat got swamped and we saw the red one power past, but there was little analysis (until the interview) of what happened, whether they would be able to get back up to speed or not, how far the line was away, and where blue boat was. Others. (Someone here mentioned a map. Realtime map overlays with wind and marks, a la the A/C, would go a long way to making things mean more, but maybe that tech isn't available here yet.) Maybe it's a question of resources, but the reason for this vid's being here is to tell a story composed of multiple threads. That's intensity and excitement. On, on...

The constant commentary is overly instructive and mismatched for the event. The race is through a veritable obstacle course of other boats and large wakes in a fresh breeze. Every time a boat comes down off the foils, commentary seizes upon the situation admonishing crew for improper boat handling, when it is obvious to everyone else watching that the boat couldn't be handled any other way as it is ramming through a wake. The comments seem totally canned and predetermined to a point of distraction. Much of the dialogue ignores the race being presented.
