lol, you should see what happened at Nassau Speedweek 1963 where the Corvette Grand Sports were almost 10 seconds a lap quicker than the Cobras. Oh, and Ken Miles was also in said race with a Cobra and they still got smacked. (Ken miles got 48th place and one of the Grand Sports got 4th place, damn) I love the Cobra though, but no need to hate on Vettes. Shelby originally went to Chevy but they didn’t approve of his idea. I mean Shelby went to Dodge to make the Viper, which was supposed to be the Cobra’s successor. So really it doesn’t seem to matter to him who he does business with.

That third guy was either extraordinarily skilled - or lucky, one of the two. If I had tried that in mine, I would have crashed into EVERYTHING within a 50 foot circle. I can't wear street tires on the back, not even real wide ones - just too much power in such a lightweight car. I've got to wear drag radials full time. These cars are dangerous and you've got to pay attention at all times, otherwise the Cobra will bite you.
@redbay85274 жыл бұрын
@@brettcall6 - Thanks for the info. I kinda thought the skill was there, because NOBODY showing off and doing that would have had the same conclusion as that man. Still - seems like almost an impossible thing to do in such tight quarters....
@ONTHEEDGEFRED2 жыл бұрын
Seems like I read somewhere before that man has had quite a bit of practice time at a skid pad with his car so apparently hes proficient at what hes doing there, though I still do agree that it's tight quarters for that kind of activity.
@redbay85272 жыл бұрын
@@ONTHEEDGEFRED Skid pad or not. To put that $$car$$ at risk is CRAZY!!! Glad he did it right and it had a huge WOW factor. I'd NEVER try that in my Cobra - not enough balls - and the car's just too hairy. All were great looking Cobras.
@400hpmustang2 жыл бұрын
I'd say that was skill, he didn't over throttle or panic brake, just a nice tight doughnut.

Silver Cobra nailed it! Probably far from being his first try.🤔

It must have really been something when the Americans first showed up in Europe in these things in the early 60s to road race...Not nearly as nice as a modern superformance, but still must have been a hoot...

The guy in the Silver Cobra did nail that donut really well…but at the same time he did put in the risk of losing control of the beautiful Cobra or accident bumping into something…but it looks like he knows what he is doing.

Hey Brett..Which is the best Tribute Shelby available ....i am leaning towards Superformance...what motors do your buddies run ? All Rousch...they all sounded extremely healthy!!
@BobbyTucker5 жыл бұрын
The Cobra's are nice and the Rousch engines are great but I'd prefer the 427 side oiler. I'm not very familiar with all the camshafts.

I have a Superformance that is a dead ringer for the blue cars. However, I am wondering what you guys have powering these cars? My car has the original A351 SVO engine (Ford's first crate motor) and does not seem to have the beans these 4 cars have. Are these Roush powered or some other engine provider?
@brettcall611 ай бұрын
The first blue Cobra (Indigo Blue) has a 427 Keith Craft in it. Around 600hpr The Silver with Blue stripes has a Ford 427 Big Block. Came out of a Superformance down in Louisiana that went under water during Katrina. Dennis OLTHOFF rebuilt it and put it in this car. Around 550-575hpr The last one is my father. The Galaxy Blue has a 351 stroked to a 396. A NASCAR guy built it in Charlotte and it was installed by Dennis’s dad, the late Bob OLTHOFF. Around 525-550hpr. I have a yellow one, car #2611 that has the Polished Roush 342R in it that has 450hpr. My opinion, that’s the perfect engine for these cars. Mine is actually quicker off the line. Where they get me is on the top end towards the end of 4th gear they come charging past me. However, how often are you going over 100 mpr? We live in a small country town with 30-40 speed limits, and that don’t mean 41. So that 342R is a blast around town. Put the 3inch Firefly pipes on it and it screams.

@@brettcall6 Well...I certainly appreciate the response. I'll stop trying to replicate what is seen in the video for now. Maybe I will repower at some point, but I so enjoy just driving around in the country so maybe the 385 hp 351 is actually the right engine for me. Enjoyed the video and thanks for your time.

Mine had a 351 crate motor from Ford performance parts (stroked to 383) and a Borg Warner T-6 six speed. I think some of these guys are running a bit more than that.

Are these factory 5?
@brettcall64 жыл бұрын
Broncho Gillespie, No, they are all Superformance, same manufacture they used for the new movie FORD VS. FERRARRI. Factory 5 are kit cars, these are factory built cars with Shelbys name on it, the only replicas that have his name. Superformance are usually twice the price as a Factory 5. If your going to purchase one, Superformance is the only way to go. They are by far superior to what they were in the 60’s.
@dandavis4973 жыл бұрын
Contemporary Cobras r pretty good too. Actually Unique and ERA r two more good ones also.
@celli3513 жыл бұрын
Factory five is great too, the only difference is, you put together the factory five, and superformance already comes assembled, you just need to add powertrain

Brent Miller, camera on phone didn't have that option when this was recorded, plus it was below freezing that night, don't think it would have made much of a difference anyway. Thank you for viewing the video. 👍🏻
