I cried too. The look on Scott's face when they went back to their corners got me. I know they fought hard for their friendship and I think this video was an excellent portrayal of the struggles they went through to get to where their relationship is today. Yeah I cried for 2 reasons. 1st I also did not like seeing them fight and 2nd I just think about how hard their breakup had to be even though they were very young at the time. It had to be going from such close friends and then not talk for a good part of a year. So glad they are so close and best friends.

I also hated seeing Mitch with blood all over his face, made me pretty emotional too. My normal way of watching your videos is to watch the clip box first, then I go back and watch your reactions. Scott said this song is about when they were fighting in high school and didn't speak for half a year after Mitch dumped Scott. So Scott said the song is about how friendships can heal from even that. I think them as commentators in the video is supposed to be them now looking back on their younger selves (the wrestlers) and seeing how badly they treated each other. And then they both lost in the end because they both lost out by fighting when they were younger. But them as commentators are happy, which shows that they're happy and not fighting now :)

I took comfort in the line "So, if it all ends tomorrow I know we could be future friends." I took the "fight" as representative of the struggles they may have gone through. As close friends, I'm sure they've had hard times...but they have kept their friendship going. I can understand your tears Rob. It’s actually a pretty brutal video. We know they dated when they were teens and I am guessing perhaps that almost tore them apart but they fought and fought hard to make sure they were “future friends.” Fought to keep their friendship alive. I view the video has their present selves looking on at the fighting they might have had to do to maintain the kind of friendship they have today and recognizing that some of the hits were brutal and maybe some metaphorical blood was shed, but now they’re stronger than ever. I cried too when I first saw the video, thinking about it in these terms. But who knows. I could be way off. :P

My interpretation of Future Friends The fight commentators are Scott and Mitch now dressed sort of like they were in other Future Friend’s songs videos and they are retelling and commenting on their relationship in the beginning. I think the whole point being that no one won when they broke up. They both were hurting at the loss of each other. I have interpreted parts of this staging to mean the following: Scott comes in with girls so he wasn't "out" yet when they met. Mitch comes in with guys, on leashes no less, implying that he was "out" and was the leader in exploring what it means to be gay. When Scott and Mitch actually get in the ring and Mitch raises his hand and Scott takes it --to me that symbolizes Scott acknowledging that he's gay. And that Mitch kissed Scott as their first kiss (Scott wanted to lead it, but Mitch did lead it). Then the struggle was that they were not perfect for each other. When you see Mitch taller than Scott at one point that symbolizes that Mitch broke up with Scott. And the first kick in the stomach by the wrestlers indicates that Scott figuratively got kicked in stomach. Later Scott mouths "f**K" and Mitch gestures "Bring it on" to me symbolizes when Scott called up Mitch and ask him to be on the Sing-Off. They tried to get back together but it didn't work it in the romantic sense as explained in the book. But they still care about each other this is symbolized when they knock each other out but Scott's arm comes towards Mitch’ head. So, they stopped trying for that romantic piece and became Future Friends where Scomiche wins and we win because we get to observe this amazing “undefined” relationship that they have "fought for" figuratively and literally. I keep watching it over and over and seeing more and more things. And I'm sure we'll never know all of the stuff they put in, but they know, and THAT is what matters. :-) BKK

So this is 3 months late but the concept of the video was that there is no real winner when couples fight (Hence them both going down at the end) and the song was written about the time they dated, I think they knew even when they broke up they would be friends again in the future.
