Saw them in Aberdeen, recorded in surround sound around 99? or so. Was an outstanding gig. The sound truly was coming from different directions. Whether that was the sound engineer, the wraps of pink champagne or the fuckin E's, I could not say.

First olympic gold medalist was Patrick Hürlimann, who startet this sport at the age of 11. He played for Lausanne Olympique, founded in 1985 with the intention to make curling olympic, done in 1998 in Nagano. Honorary president of the club at the time was Juan Antonio Samaranch, who also presented the gold medal.

I love how odd this video is. God bless the Super Furry Animals. I don't know too much much about Curling but it looks like a very stuffy regulated game Irish Road Bowls is altogether run on a different code. It's pretty much only played in Co Cork and in small pockets of Co Armagh in Northern Ireland.

The first I ever heard or saw SFA was the God! Show me Magic! video on MTV. Never saw another video of theirs on MTV apart from Hermann Loves Pauline once. From God! Show Me Magic! onwards I bought all their albums and singles I could find. This is the very first time I have seen most of their videos. Completely original videos and musically as a band. This video of the life-cycle of the making of a Curling stone is unusually compelling!

+Phippsta There was little relevance to the actual Northern Lights apart from the Super Furries claim to have seen some the night before the song was written. 😀 I don't think there was a video made especially for the song so SFA had those two put together for it for whaterver reason. Not sure where those foreign curling teams are from but I don't think its the UK. I suggest you contact the bands members and see if they have anything to say. The other sport is a lesser one known if you're outside Ireland. Thats road bowling or Long Bullets in Northern Ireland and it is over 300 years old. Once again I don't see any real connection to the Super Furry Animals song.

+Phippsta That is called road bowling. It is not rocks they are throwing, but an iron bowling ball, the referee is marking how far a throw has reached with a grass marker. This is a sport only played in Ireland, typically rural Ireland.
