Just about all the highlights of the remaining 22 wards in tokyo, are represented here in Shinjuku - whether you're into high-end shopping at Takashimaya or Isetan, or you are looking for the latest electronic gizmo, a small alley with Japanese barbecue or simply wanna feel the buzz of Tokyo at its best, with tons of people and energy around the clock - Shinjuku is the place to go. It was the part of town, that made me feel so excited about Tokyo in the early days - Check it out if you're planning coming to japan, you may find it to be the coolest place on earth! - Enjoy!

I think it's the same thing that brings all cities together, most people like being around other people to have more of a community feeling. While some people just like to be alone and live in suburbs, but often that can make you feel very much alone in the world.

Love the walk about in your favorite district of Tokyo, the small alley ways with all the small food stalls and restaurants, the main boulevards with all the people, cars, taxi's and buses !! Wonderful city :) glad I stayed there. Shinjuku station was like a maze for me though. Bought myself a Yukata in Shinjuku's Subnade. That city is full of surprises. I wish I stayed longer though.

Great! About the first half shows west Shinjuku and the about the second half shows East Shinjuku. East Shinjuku is my hood! It is a great place and has everything (for good and bad). I live about a 15 minute walk. If you are in Tokyo, make SURE you go to Shinjuku! It's happening!

My wife and I lived in Tokyo (Ichigaya) for 6 months. It's an amazing place and probably one of the cleanest and safest cities in the world to live. The food is incredible, you can get anywhere by train, it's easy to get around. Only downside is it is a bit on the expensive side. Other than that I love the place. Shinjuku is unbelieveable. Great shopping.

just came back from tokyo.. hotel was in shinjuku and it was the best place i've visited so far. Plenty of shops and food around and people were super friendly and helpful. Definately will go back again when i've saved up enough money!

Michael Marzan I just put on a whole series on Japan, including Shinjuku, if you are interested. I found Shinjuku a bit off putting, there are so many scammers accosting you on the streets at night, it was difficult to walk in peace. I found it surprising as I didn't see that in any other parts of Japan. So Shiunjuku, mixed feelings. Other than that, Japan was great.

10 Million Miles Journey Scammers are only a problem if you walk in kabukicho/East Shinjuku. Which is why I havent been there for about a year. West Shinjuku on the other hand.... - totally love it.

I suppose that's the same here in the US, just polite short chit chat, if they open up to talk at all. People often seem reluctant to get involved in real relationships, either just friendships or romantic. I worked at an office with a co-worker and we enjoyed each other's company for nearly six years, when he quit I never heard from him again. It's like, don't you want to at least grab a beer once in a while? :/

Well yes, no matter where you live you can be lonely. But I would imagine in a largely populated city it's easier to get over fears of people and fears of talking to them and just relax and be more comfortable getting to know people. But of course social anxiety can exist anywhere.
