A Change of Heart for me? I am going to be completely honest as, at least I thought a conservative- leaning, raised in a church going family, living in the Bible Belt state of Indiana man, but this show has made me rethink a lot about my stances. In the past I thought of transgender people, as being kind of icky. Why weren't they happy in the body they were born into? Why go through surgery and all those medical bills to change themselves. I couldn't understand. And when it comes to women who used to be men like Nicole Maines, I would think what does it mean if i am attracted to one? And let me just tell you, Nicole is beautiful. But I think Supergirl may change my heart, perhaps it already has a little just by doing this. It already has made me see lesbians differently, in a good way. This show is really trying to make people see things from perhaps a different perspective than their own, not caring if it steps on people's toes, and all I can say is RESPECT. As Lena said about the Harunel in season 3 finale, its revolutionary. It's got something to say, perhaps a little heavy handed at times, but I definitely respect it for staying relevant and for having something to say about what constantly seems like a world of prejudice and hate. I love this show as it is trying its best to tell the viewing audience that everyone deserves love, whether we completely understand them or not, we are all called to love and respect one another. I don't want to be the villain of the story, like Agent Liberty, who only serves to stir up fear and hatred.

I can’t even explain how happy your comment made me. I’m non-binary (I don’t have a gender) while there is many meanings of the word non-binary, with me it’s exactly like being trans, I was born into a gendered body but I’m neither male nor female. I’ve been lucky to have friends and family who supports me but recently I’ve encountered a lot of hate especially online from people who doesn’t understand what trans/non-binaries go through (and there is nothing wrong with not understanding) and spew hate at us without even taking the time to at least try to listen to our side. So seeing your comment just gives me hope! Thank you for sharing it!

Idk about anyone else, but it is like the best thing ever that while being outnumbered the women of the show still are - don’t manage to be or are written as - but they ARE the main characters and unlike other shows where some of the main women can be cut out without a thought the women of the show are the show. That’s amazing. And I’m so happy that Supergirl continues to be forward and unapologetically outspoken and accepting of the weirdness.

okay but why are so many people saying that having a trans superhero will ruin the show? i'm not familiar with any of the comics, but it seems like the original character wasn't trans, and the writers are changing the character. i understand that being a fan of the original story makes new changes to the story line seem bad, but this is such an important issue that needs to be talked about. supergirl is the perfect platform to give the trans community representation, and i couldn't be happier about it.

If it were any other show doing this, I'd be worried. Speaking as a lesbian, many shows just shove LGBT characters in for the sake of political correctness, but few ever develop those characters beyond that, which can be just as harmful as no representation. That's not the case with Supergirl. This show just handles everything perfectly, and I mean everything. It's wonderful that they're the first ones to have a trans superhero and I can't wait to see what they do with her.

Probably gonna go over about as well as their gun control episode last season. No hate for having a transgender person added to the show. If the character was well written, I'd be all for it. However, this isn't HBO, Showtime, Netflix, ect., it's the CW, so you know the dialogue is gonna be way over the top with how preachy it is. "Supergirl, I know you said you were okay with me being transgendered, but..." That conversation is gonna happen like 57 times throughout the season. We get it, she's transgendered! Move the fuck on with the story!

All in all I think this is a good idea but, I do wish it was truly a new trans superhero. Dreamer is the renamed Dream Girl from the Legion of Super-Heroes. Able to see the future when she dreams and a powerful hand to hand combatant.
