Well as far as I remember from the comics, when Karolina confessed her feelings for Nico she turned her down cause she wasn’t into girls and she was dating Alex at the time. And then Alex betrayed the team and Nico was just healing from that. Then out of nowhere Xavin comes in and Karolina and Xavin leaves to save another planet. In result, Nico was angry and yknow confused because Karolina was also her bff and the betrayal. Then Xavin and Karolina comes back to the Runaways and some shit happens with the fact that the other planet they fought was trying to kill Karolina and so Xavin saves her by transforming as Karolina. Right when Nico was about to confess, Julie powers and Karolina started dating. So yeahhh. But so much tensions between the two. It took a long ass while for them together. Anyways now they’re together but if they put that on the show it would’ve been so frustrating but I’d like to see a great developed chemistry (I mean Karolina and Nico has good chemistry) but seeing it really build up would be great to watch.

Harry Dresdon and the scene of the school bathroom, when one occasionally went to cry there. Nico commented on hiding things with a smile (hinting at karolina hiding who she is with a smile, being the perfect girl in the church). I used to think she had said that because of their parents' stuff, but it was episode 1 and they had not figured it out yet, so that's the second option.

dannah cortat simoneli I think that was more about not being okay. Karolina hurt so she smiled to hide it, Nico hurt so she adapted a certain appearance and behavior to hide it too. Neither was happy with where they were in their lives be it church stuff or amy' death or them all falling apart. There was a connection but I doubt either of them were aware of it at that point. Karolina sort of slowly realized it through show(first realizing she likes girls and getting into gay panic, then realizing she likes NICO specifically and getting into denial, then after Gerts comments came acceptance and depression and by the time of rooftop scene she was 1000% sure of who she is and who she likes, which metaphorically is when she flew). Nico suspected her liking her since the bedroom scene and show started showing her picking up upon those moments by then. She then realized how much she likes her back during the kiss(since there's a moment of confusion followed by kissing back) which is when her behavior around Karolina COMPLETELY changed. They were drawn toward each other before that but that's how conscious realization went between them, imo.

wanbyukhae this is a few months later but Nico’s make up is getting brighter. Look at her eye shadow. It is pink, while in the beginning of the season, it was just plain black. It’s symbolizing the original, sweet, bright parts of her taking over again because there is someone in her life that doesn’t have baggage and makes her happy.

In comics they did not because writers lacked the spine for that. It was a mistake for ages. Even then the entire runaways run is pretty much about teasing them together(the relaunch might actually go there too) will it be rocky ? Will they bicker? Sure? Will they break up and get together again? Sure, it's a tv show. Actually ruining it would KILL the show as it pretty much runs on the gaydom who has been waiting for it for decades.

They have been hinting at it for quite a while with the relaunch since they are trying to recapture the feeling for the first few Runaways arcs that everybody liked. Still it will most likely be the slowest of burns because even at the current stage there have been already calls from Marvel to tone it down(the kiss attempt apparently was written a bit differently at first). So if the show does it's job well, we could most likely have endgame Deanoru in the tv show before they even acknowledge each other's feelings in the comics. And that's a huge IF considering tv shows tend to fuck these things up quite often.
