14:20 I think that the reason Shingan talked to Yukio in English randomly in that scene is because his wife was beside him at that moment. Maybe she doesn't speak English and he didn't want her to understand what he was saying to Yukio which were obviously very harsh things, especially considering that she's technically part of the family.

I agree with your review Cap. Wolverine was a great addition and refreshing. I loved the Action scenes and the chemistry between Hugh and tao okamoto. There Chemistry made this movie for me. And I actually cared about them as a couple. Also Tao is drop dead gorgeous. She is a delight on the screen with both looks and acting.

Great review. I love this movie a lot. I think a lot of people overlook it because of the very reason it is so good, it is a small intimate character piece that is not trying to change hearts and minds of the genera like Logan was. This film is just plain good on pretty much every level. it is shot, cast, scored, and written amazingly and is exactly how you should do small scale superhero stuff. Also good points on the killing thing. I feel a lot of people either generalize "protagonist killing=bad" or "f yeah just kill everything " the topic is more sophisticated than that. As for the kill at the end, I think it fits right at home with the detective novel aspect of the film Eric has brought up before if nothing else.

This story is fascinating and told very well. I like the mystery of the plot and its many new characters who's motives are unclear until the story starts to slowly unravel. And I like the idea of Logan loosing it and as time has gone by, it's really weighing on him that he killed Jean and just feels lost. He's clearly tired but it's good to see he's still a good man and can't help but step in when he sees an injustice happen. It's also interesting that he's getting more and more of his memories from before the weapon X project, and I'm sure so much of his past is adding to his pain. So the resolution feels so great when he's done quote, "hiding" and is ready to be a "soldier" again. I interpret that kiss he shared with Mariko as him still desperate to find some peace, and not that he loves her. I also believe his dreams and hallucinations of Jean are just the peace he is subconsciouly seeking. And the "Jean" he sees is just his own version of her. So when he says bye to her, from then on, he's a man with new found hope. Viper was really mysterious and I like her mutant ability to shed her skin to heal. The fact she's very intelligent, tough, and resourceful with the toxins really made her stand out. Also the suspense in the Yukio "keyhole" premonition scene was excellent. It's awesome how what she saw came to pass but it wasn't clear enough for her to see what was actually supposed to happen. It's very suspenseful and you really worry for Logan, and even more so when he's digging into his chest while Shingen Yashida is trying to attack him while Yukio is desperately trying to defend him. My issues are in the third act, like in the final fight sequence with the Silver Samurai because at certain parts of it the background is too dark to clearly make out what's happening. It's a great story though! Overall it's an 8/10.

Very much agree that, in hindsight, The Wolverine feels like a rehearsal for what Mangold had in store for us with Logan. The Wolverine is still a stellar film and, in hindsight, much better on a repeat viewing, and I enjoy the natural progression of Logan's character from here to, well, Logan.

why is he questioning the bone claws when people like to argue that the adamantium coated his bone claws despite the fact that they were broken off by Sabretooth in Origins before he got the adamantium so he can obviously regrow his bone claws.

I was kind of wondering the same. Maybe since, if I remember right they don't show the claws grown back before we do the adamantium process scene, Cap assumed they just formed over the broken claws?

X-Men Origins: Wolverine and The Wolverine have the same rating on IMDb. I don't get it.
@SB992REBORN7 жыл бұрын
It's due to the ending fight sequence in The Wolverine being a little comic-booky that swayed critics to downvote it, which is completely unjustified if you ask me. As Captain Logan pointed out here, it's COMPLETELY justified and warranted in my humble opinion. Had the Unleashed Edition been released in theaters, critics would have definitely rated the film higher in retrospect. As it stands, I still love this film wholeheartedly (even looking back at the entire series), yet Logan brought me to personal emotional places I would not have thought they would do in the X-Men saga, let alone any comic book film.. & a masterfully crafted drama-style character piece at that (and that's even looking at the Dark Knight trilogy, and the criminally underrated Man Of Steel & Batman v Superman films.)
@gamestation26907 жыл бұрын
The Unleashed Extended Cut, by the way, DOESN'T have the alternate ending with the yellow Wolverine costume, as Cap says. It's a separate bonus feature.
@SB992REBORN7 жыл бұрын
GameStation3 it's DEPRESSINGLY UNFORTUNATE for that yo be the case with the Unleashed Cut. They SHOULD have added it back in... ohh, and for those many who thought after all these years we never got the classic yellow suit in action, i think we actually (yet subtly) did.. in Days of Future Past. I NOW CHALLENGE those to watch the film again (theatrical and/or Rogue Cut) and prove me wrong, cause I'm pretty fairly positive about this since I did some info digging about the production on the film. During his future scenes, except for the mask of course, Wolverine IS wearing the classic yellow and blue outfit underneath the black armor placed on top of him. The material in the suit shown in the alternate ending looks strikingly similar to that outfit in my eyes and it MAKES PERFECT SENSE since they were filming the pictures very close back-to-back within a 1 year gap .. PLEASE, go and judge for yourselves!! ;)
@jman28567 жыл бұрын
It's not unjustified when it clashes with the overall tone and atmosphere the first two acts were setting up, and it's not just comicbookey it's straight up silly comicbookey which wouldn't be so bad if the first two acts had some of that but it sadly doesn't.

Also, on the topic of radiation, the best stuff no longer comes from Japan. The result of Fukushima was a wave of international pressure for Japan to stop using nuclear power, since the island is in an unstable part of the world, with earthquakes and tsunamis. Since Japan lacks natural resources, they relied on nuclear power to power their industry, without that, they've had to ship their industries to China. If you look at a Nikon lens now, it will no longer say "Made in Japan". The more you know.

Viper is basically Cold Blooded. A single facet villian, melodrama, which isn't a bad thing. In this movie, and Depth with all the deep characters would be a distraction. Her inhumanity, the worst that Mutants can be serves Contrast with Yukio's Red, color coded for your convenience. With her Humanity, despite being Inhuman. She sees people's deaths, all the time. That humanified her the same way it did Xavier. Viper's mutation is literally Venomous. This dehumanized her, the same way Magneto's past, and power (Cold metallic) reflect his Inhuman Stance: Genocide. We just don't get that backstory on Viper, because she's a tertiary character, a deuterantagonist.
@jman28567 жыл бұрын
This film really would have benefited from a more simple story and consistent tone but like Origins, the tone is all over the place at points and we're dealing with a convoluted villain plan in which the villains are either underdeveloped or just there for cool action scenes along with side characters who feel like they should be more important and interesting than they actually are. The film itself is okay mostly with what Cap described regarding the themes as such, but the execution just ended up being very middle of the road and not worth investing in.

I like to view Origins Wolverine as the begginning of his life. The Wolverine is the middle of his life, and Logan is towards the end. The X-Men stuff is everything inbetween. The Wolverine is a great character study of Logans character. The Arc was essential and intrigueing. Its nowhere near as good as Logan but The Wolverine is absolutley a great movie. A worthy entry for my favourite character.

I don't agree with Mangold's thoughts on why Logan doesn't wear his costume. Wolverine doesn't wear a costume out of a need of self expression, he wears it in respect of who he works with. With the X-men, their uniform is meant to convey they fight for humanity, and Wolverine, as you mention, is a soldier and a soldier wear his uniform proudly.

The radiation of the Little Boy bomb was not all that intense. The bomb was small and the wind blew the radiation out quickly. Situations like Chernobyl were much worse, since that involved an exposed nuclear reactor to open air while the nuclear fuel was burning. Indeed, there is the story of Tsutomu Yamaguchi who was at Hiroshima when the bomb detonated and was badly burned as a result, then returned to his homedown of Nagasaki where the second bomb detonated. He exposed himself to radiation looking for his relatives, but he still managed to live to the age of 93, albeit he died of stomach cancer.

Azim abou-khalil I got a little wrapped up in Logan's hero's journey and his tragic worldview. I wish I'd taken the time to discuss how unnecessarily complicated and convoluted the villain plot is. I'm suprised you didn't pick up on the silver samurai twist cosidering how observant you normally are. For me this movie is well made, but fails to be amazing because of one major conceit. We have to believe that the end of x3 either wasn't as happy or that Logan almost immediately fell apart after the ending. Ignoring that makes it a pretty standard getting back in the sattle story.

I really liked the film, but the portrayal of Silver Samurai sucked. Totally broke cannon with the old man in the cyber suit, and broke cannon worse when the tachyon blade cut through Wolvie's claws, an absolutely impossible feat as indexed by a real-world metric superhero database. Yeah I'm totally geeking, but those 2 things made me give the film a 7.5 instead of the 9/10 I would have.
