It was not Kishore who challenged Mohd.Rafi's supremacy 1st yes he was 1st to end his loop sided ownership in Bollywood. Mukesh and Mannadey were there but they were never a competition for Mohd. Rafi they have their certain market and scope of singing but it was actually Mahendra Kapoor with musicians like Ravi OP nayyar Kalyan ji Anand Ji and banners like BR Films and heroes like Manoj Kumar who once challenged Rafi's unrivaled supremacy those days. Mahendra Kapoor was equally talented just his reign was short and his luck was less strong compared to Rafi.

Mahendra & Rafi were equally good. But there is a little difference between the two. Rafi had a very easy, effortless and dynamic voice. Mahendra had to put a little effort to these parameters. Similarly, O. P. N.'s music was Effort-oriented, which offered Natural, Youthful energy and Foot-tapping and Hand-Clapping Zeal to listeners. For this common reason, O. P. N. had more inclination towards Mahendra and Mahendra had equal interest (say, devotion) towards O. P. N.'s music.

Infact in his over enthusiasm to put Rafi down because of a nonsensical tiff O P Nayyar started promoting Mahendra Kapoor but realised not too soon that Rafi was Rafi unmatched in any genre and soon regretted his folly. With due respect to Mahendra ji it is evident that Mahendra couldn't handle high and low pitched songs as effortlessly as Rafi Sahab so had to acknowledge who was the complete singer but it was too late by then . Time changed, opportunities went by and O.P.N was also ran.
