I play the guitar, and I love it. It’s like it’s become a part of me. I can’t imagine being bullied about it. I can understand why he went mad, I would have too. I was genuinely sad about his story. And well, I don’t have a romantic partner, but I have a really good family and few really close friend, and I can’t imagine if I killed one of them. Guess his backstory is kind of why Näcken has been my favorite character so far (and his really cool design).

I don't think a regular orb of light is what turned the troll to stone. In folklore, it's pretty well understood that trolls only come out at night because in daylight they turn to stone. I think the orb may have stunned the troll until daylight came, or the orb itself is made of like, concentrated daylight and that's how the dawn came so quickly.

Fun fact, the instrument the water baddie plays is a hardanger fiddle. It's a fascinating instrument that features a set of strings underneath the top 4. When the top strings are played, the bottom strings resonate and ring out on certain pitches, which is why it sometimes sounds like multiple notes are being played at once. It's also the national instrument of Norway.

It's funny how you can speculate what the story is if you don't know it. For everyone in my country this is really scary since we know exactly who that man with the violin is, and his name, fun fact, the man in this game is a mix of two characters.

they are different versions of the Näcken, right ? playing the violin or the harp, drowning everyone or specifically children, looking like a human or a seaweed monster, sometime shapeshifting as well... for some reason, creatures drowning people with their music is a very common theme in european folklore

Hooray, episode 2! It's great seeing not only how the developers have choosen to render many of these beings and stories but also how Mike reacts to them; keep up the good work! 22:18 Princess Tuva is most likely meant to be Princess Tuvstarr (translated Princess Cottongrass). In her fairy tale she goes on a journey with Leap the elk and gradually loses her her things; first the elves steal her crown, then the witch of the woods steals her dress and finally she looks into a magical forest pool so deeply her gold heart pendant slips off her head and into the dark waters. She becomes so saddened by the loss of her heart that she stays by the pool to search for it, eventually turning into a cottongrass flower. It's a beautiful story but very tragic. The scene where she sits by the pond is identical to John Bauer's famous illustration, I'd say much of the art direction is inspired by his works and those of Elsa Beskow. Edit; yeah, you can see a few of Bauer's works in the library, lovely detail ❤

I really appreciate games like this that going to the truth and detail no matter how traumatic or gory of a fairy tale or cultural. It really shows the significance of the morality and duality and life. It doesn't sugarcoat anything in the things that does sugarcoat are generally already good things, I genuinely wish American culture and games were a lot more like this. I honestly can't wait for the next episode but don't bring yourself out because you're supposed to be on holiday.

At 22:20 the image of the girl is most likely to be a reference to the artwork of the swedish artist/painter John Bauer. I you remove the boy it looks just like the painting called "Ännu sitter Tuvstarr kvar och ser ner i vattnet", which is pretty neat to see!

So far I think this game is about the loss of childhood innocence and how souls can get corrupted... Or it's just a mother telling a story to her children that liked to sneak out at night OR both children who died trying to find the after life. The story's in the game being told by a female voice r story's the main protagonist remember there mom telling them supporting this last theory. Being it's a horror game it might as well b the first or last theory

The stone Olle has isn't what turned the troll at the start to stone. In nordic folklore, trolls only move in the darkness as sunlight turns them into to stone.

The skull midwife isn't the witch (that's the human), but a wrongly killed caretaker. She returned as anentity who protects the dark children souls who died in the swamp She probably attacked olle for either intruding her territory or thinking he was going to harm her proteges

The midwife, Karrhaxen, seems to be based off of Slavic spirits called Kikimora. Normally these are benevolent house spirits, but it depends on where they are located. For example, those in the swamp were believed to be demonic. Young children who perished unbaptized, young women who took their own lives, these could become a Kikimora. For the most part, Kikimora's appeared as young dark spirits, but the witchier demonic version would often appear as a woman with animalistic features. Sometimes with a goat's head complete with horns and glowing eyes.

The fiddle player is so sad. Knowing he used to be a gifted musician pushed too far. It hurts because now he's the mindless monster! He didn't deserve that fate. He deserved something for killing a whole town but it's the fact he became like a zombie that makes it so tragically over the top of a punishment for his sins. Not even a ghost just full on "Yeah.
