Damn! I can’t believe that Warner Bros didn’t notice that. The worst color problems seem to involve the blue areas of Superman’s outfit. I know that they ran out of time to fix all of those shots on the first film in order to make the opening, but it seems like they were just being lazy this time. But I’m not holding Academy Award-winner Roy Field responsible for this mistake. He was in charge of Optical Effects. And he was the only VFX artist from the first three films that remained loyal on “Superman IV.” (I saw his name in the credits under “Opticals, UK.”)

Do you think that “Superman II” also needs a fresh color correction?

Definitely, I have done both versions to use in my edit. Hopefully the new 4K versions are better in that department than the blurays.

@@faneditedbybooshman fingers crossed. I’m also hoping that they’ll do the same for “Superman Returns” as well as the Donner Cut of “Superman II.”

Isn't it true that the real suit was teal so that it didn't interfere with blue screen? And then somehow they had to tinker with the film to get it to look blue in the final cut?

Only in blue screen shots, which throughout the film isn't many. The rest for the rear projection and general filming is the regular blue.

@@faneditedbybooshman how could they have messed up the overall color pallet for the whole film? And is there a way to fix it on your TV set?

@@darthkurland Just sloppy work, check out how blown out the whites are on the lake as it falls and cracks on the bluray, you can't even see the effect. A shame since there is a whole segment on the making of dedicated to how they did it. I made a custom disc that's recolored and has these errors fixed. Isolated score too.
