Eve Tesmacher had the chance to get away from Lex Luthor after she saved Superman by throwing the Kryptonite attached to the chain around him into the sewer so that he can save Eve's mother along with everyone in her hometown of Hackensack, New Jersey, from being killed by an Army missile that was heading there because Otis didn't put the complete co-ordinates into it, which would've sent it to California with the Navy missile. What stopped her from leaving before Luthor later tried to kill her for ruining his plans?

First in your reaction " which would've sent it to California with the Navy missile." That should be the Arny missle.. Then Only Luthor knew that the Army missle ( with the wrong " Otis co-ordinates" would fly to Hackensack. Then with the help of Miss Tesmacher Superman was able to intercep the " Hackensack missile " and throw it in space. The interception of the " Hackensack missile " did Not ruiing Luthors plans.

I love this cut of Superman: The Movie because it shows him actually catching up to the rocket. They mentioned earlier that they couldn’t shoot the rockets down due to the low-level guidance system which explains why it avoided Superman when he attempted to stop it head-on. So much attention to detail on top of a really exciting, fast-paced action scene. The newer effects may look better, but they just don’t capture this same intensity. Plus, the amazing John Williams score puts it over the top.

Because it was the perfect mix of music and cinematography. The main issue is directors rely too much on CGI today. In the Man of Steel the scenes are so quick you can barely keep up with them. Too me the lift off scenes in Superman are excellent. There is another scene where Superman brings Lex to a prison and Superman says were all part of the same team. He lifts off. It feels so much more authentic. It's more about building a relationship with your audience. Man of Steel is more like an Arcade game you play a couple times then you're done with. Superman is like a great rpg that holds up over time.

@@SteveGiome because you've been raised on rip-offs like Thor and Iron Man. This was IT. This is the alpha and omega of superheroism. Superman. This movie is the Holy Bible of superhero movies. Admittedly, Henry Cavill is probably more your Superman, and I like Henry, but Christopher Reeve BECAME Superman for real to many kids who grew up in the 80's. You had to grow up on it. We were lucky. In the comics, when Doomsday killed Supes, you thought about it being THIS guy. When the Reign of the Supermen happened, it was breakoff versions of THIS incarnation. It's just an amazing movie and the flying scenes are incredible. IMO STM is up there with Jaws and Star Wars.

1:34secs and 3:11secs, one of the BEST Superman moments in movie history! Damn, even today he looks frigging amazing when he flies. Look at him! He looks sick!! Another scene that made me wish I was Superman was when he responded to Lex Luthor calling his via a higher sound frequency. Yes, the scene he jumped out of the building and flew around the metropolis. DAMN, the amount of time I wished that was me... I wanted to be Superman until I saw the chaotic ungraceful flying in Man of Steel. damn.

He didn't like it? Madness. That scene is one of the very ones that made every child wish they were Superman including me! That scene is epic as fu*k! Damn, he has no idea how many times I tried to recreate that very scene in my dreams as myself as Superman. Even looking at it again as an adult, it isn't the nostalgia that kept me glued, it was still the epicness of that scene. Gosh, I wonder why he didn't like it either. What a pity.

EAprima yeah, I watched the movie with the commentary and that's where he mentioned it. I was only 5 when my folks took me to see it in theaters. I was too young to remember but only recall a few scenes. Yet, I left the theater and became a HUGE fan. I ended getting the movie cards, lunch box, mug, Mego figure etc... I'm so glad I can say that my folks took me to see it in early '79 and for that, I'll always love them.

Both time frames you've selected are for me also one of the best flying scenes in any superman film period! The coordination of his movements when flying are like a science, knowing when to switch which arm position to indicate where his next flying direction will be...just excellent. Kudos to Christopher Reeves. Not to mention the excellent score by John Williams also complimenting the flying scenes, by enhancing the visual sequence making it feel more heroic. I remember rewinding the VHS copy my parents bought in the early 80's at least 1000 times on these flying scenes. That tape eventually wore out in those sections making it almost unviewable...ahh the good old VHS times! hah... :D
