The Supermarine Seafire was the naval equivalent of the famous Supermarine Spitfire. Like the Spitfire, there were many different variants and marks of the Seafire. This one, registration SX366, is a mark XVII - a later variant which is why it has a Rolls-Royce Griffon engine as oppose to the Merlin. ‘366 is one of only two flying Seafires in the world. The other is also based in the UK (for now at least) and is a Merlin-powered mark III.
Having flown its last display at Old Warden in 2015, the Seafire XVII was back in the skies over Bedfordshire this afternoon for its first display in Navy Wings' ownership. It was great to see the aircraft back in the skies thundering down the display line for everyone to see. Also nice to see it flying alongside another one of a kind naval aircraft, the Hawker Sea Hurricane!
