In case Matt may ever see this, the donation machine jamming in greed mode is based on your character. Every cent you donate as a character increases the chance for it to jam as that character, so basically it incentivizes you to beat greed mode as different characters to be able to donate more easily.

There is no 'good' or 'bad' parent in BoI. Both parents were unfit to raise a child, they were financially unstable (Dad was only a handyman and also stole savings money to go drinking), both had debilitating additions (alcohol and pills), they constantly fought, and both seem to have physically abused isaac at some point (Dad likely using The Belt during one of his many drunken rages, and Mom punishing Isaac with Wooden Spoon for 'sinning'). Both parents loved Isaac more than anything, but they were in no good place to have him.
