I believe that part might actually be another Good Omens reference! A similar bit of dialogue appears towards the end of the book when the Metatron shows up alongside Beelzebub at Tadfield Airbase when both sides are getting ready for Armageddon. I think it was one of the Them who mistook Metatron for Megatron and was corrected on it. (I say "another", ofc, because of Crowley himself being a reference.)

Okay but, everytime I see that part of Cas just casually offering to watch over Dean as he's probably done before, while Dean was a child, long before he was aware of Cas' existence.. That really gets to me 'cause I always remember when Mary said angels were watching over him... And it's such a cliché for people to have THEIR angel watching over them and Dean actually has his there... And while, for Dean it is kinda creepy, for Cas it is such a common thing to offer as if it's his nature as an angel to protect God's creation, who also happens to be the human he was assigned to save...
