I think the reason why Sam and Dean look so shocked is not “just“ because of the explosion.Sam has this look in his eyes because now he knows how it was for Dean and John to see their house burning down and how it was to know that there was a person they loved in it and they were not able so save this person.And Dean has this look in his eyes because he has a dejavu, he is running away from a burning place, knowing that there is a person in this shop he loves and left behind and he was not able to save.and we all know e blames himself (and hates himself) for that, even he was just a little boy.ellen was a little bit like a mother to sam and dean, and they just lost another part of their family in the flames because of the creatures of hell.

I was never crazy about Jo, but I really don't think she deserves to die. Especially not like that. She and Ellen both. They were both good characters with a lot more potential than dying here when in the end it wasn't even for a reason. This was one of the saddest death scenes to me because it was a mother and a daughter, and Ellen's reaction to Jo dying and knowing she would die and be with her again soon fucked me up.

What breaks my heart was the fact that Ellen didn't want her daughter to die scared and alone so she chose give up her own life to stay with her AND the last thing she saw in life was her daughter dying in her arms. This is the only scene in all of spn to ever make me cry. Still does. Jo and Ellen were two of my absolute favorite characters. One thing that gets me about this show is how just about every female character dies. Hell the series started out with Mary dying, Jess too. So there’s Mary, Jess, Ruby 1.0 and 2.0, Meg 1.0 and 2.0, Hael, Anna, Abbadon, Lilith, Jo, Ellen, Naomi, Eve, etc. They all die! Right now Charlie Jody and Becky are all that’s left.

What annoys me is how they try to redeem Meg after this. I don't care how cute you think "Megstiel" is, it shouldn't have existed. Meg did something awful to Jo and Ellen. And, fine, you can forgive Meg for it or whatever, but I personally would never be caught dead acting like friends with the person who killed two of my closest friends and family. Not the way Sam and Dean were. And how much people like Meg shows how easily we are manipulated by a few good moments. It's the reason people stay in abusive relationships; they hold on to the few good moments. And that's what we did with Meg. She isn't a heroine in Sam and Dean's story, period. Never should have been displayed that way. Ellen and Jo's deaths just really made me dislike Meg. If I had Dean end up with anyone, I wanted it to be Jo. Dean wouldn't have had to worry about putting Jo in danger or whether or not he'll see her again; because she'd go with him and fight with him. And Bobby and Ellen? Bobby deserved that bit if happiness and never got it. I just...ugh.

Dean moved forward with Jo while he moved on from Lisa. The difference between the two is, his last moment at the hospital shows that he cut Lisa off of his life (well yeah for safety purposes but it seems like he doesn't see any future with her anymore even on the other side.) While with Jo, base on his statement "I'll see you on the other side". He is looking forward to see her again. And in the finale, Dean first stoodby the Harvelle's roadhouse. It implies that Dean is still in touch with the Harvelles (aka Jo).

Belthazor kept the Titanic from sinking because he hated the movie (well if I remember correctly more like the song my heart will go on) and by doing so caused the timeline to change so all the people that died that night and Ellen and Jo are alive, but the timeline get's fixed which means Jo and Ellen are dead again.
