there are parts where it merged nicely and parts where it clashed. the dream would have been the two versions duetting each other in a sense and actually chopping up and reorganizing the music a bit

Ehhhh well I'm not a huge expert but I do know lots about music (not to brag). They're different songs that use different chords. So C major with C minor 7 does sound good it's used correctly. But for the most part, yes there are parts that sound good. I'm not saying it's bad mashup, all I'm saying is that on most parts it won't match up correctly.
