Superslicer is my absolute favorite slicer till this day. And I really hope the developer manages to get back on track to work on it again. After the initial beta-implementation or Arachne early September, it's been quiet on both the Discord and the Github. Let's hope that the development continues when the time is right because this is hands-down the best slicer I've used.

The flow calibration in superslicer is amazing and leads to way better real world results than the wall thickness measurement test. The inbuilt calibration solved nearly all of my strength issues with printing ABS.

Ever since I changed my extruder, Ive had issues with clearance and recently found out it was due to flow. I used the superslicer flow calibration tests to tune the flow for my different filaments, and now some work pretty well. Some others still aren't great, but now I know it is due to the filament, and not an issue with my printer. Because of that, I now know which brands of filament I prefer. Overall, I had a good experience using the flow calibration. In addition, I've used the temp tower generator, and in my experience, it works as expected. I like that the towers are thin, because it is faster to print, and uses less filament compared to assembling your own temp tower in cura. It is also much simpler to generate, and doesn't require you to manually assemble the tower.

Heads up with the stringing test: There is a bug where if you chose a step of 0.5 mm, SuperSlicer doesn't actually change the retraction settings, resulting in the same stringing from the bottom all the way up the tower. I fiddled around for a long while with this test until I read someone mention this bug. Now I don't know what versions this affects, of if it affects everyone with the same version, but I've already had someone else experience this bug.
@billclark59432 жыл бұрын
I used the 100mm method for calibrating the extruder since beginning this insanity back in 2013. A few years ago I realized there was no way 100mm can provide enough resolution so I started measuring out filament for prints that required several meters of filament, added a few hundred mm extra, ran the print, measured what was left then adjusted the extrusion multiplier. I think this has made tuning more predictable knowing I'm consistently within .5% of the calculated value over those several meters. Using the manufactures claimed e steps for the Titan Aero my extrusion multiplier is .82-.92 depending on filament used

Love SuperSlicer. Best slicer for sure. My only complaint is that it is missing some of the fancier Lightning infill and Tree support structures. I feel like these would have been handy on a couple prints I've done, but even without, I would still rather use SS than Cura.
@chriswoods9857 Жыл бұрын
Wow. Moving from cura to superslicer is the HARDEST job I have done so far with printing. Superslicer is soooooooooo hard to understand. Where the hell is the flow rate? I started the flow calibration and the first block was wayyyyyyy over extruded! The nozzle ended up hitting filament that had built up from the ironing so I immediately stopped it. Going back to cura as it is way easier and user friendly. For those of you that have got a grip on it i applaude you!

Unfortunately, I had to start using super slicer as your calibration prints weren't lining up to my results from my slicer. I chalk that up to prusa slicer though. The main thing I think is missing is the machine settings that are being used for calibration. I.e. I wish the retraction test showed what speed is used for retractions, or how much wipe distance or percentage is used, if at all. Great video mate!

I recently did pressure advance and retraction calibration for my PLAs, I didn't really like the low area for the first layer with built in retraction test model. Nor the fact that you have to start at 0 for retraction. I just wanted to start from 2mm and the go up from that for my bowden setup.

Michael, this video convinced me to give Superslicer a try. ONLY ISSUE: I don't see a way to print directly from the slicer over USB to my printer. I do this for about 90% of my small prints from CURA. Easy-peasy (since I don't use Octoprint and don't need to bother with the SD card). Is this not a feature / option with Superslicer???
@silverbullet6833 Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the video, i am a Cura user of over 3 years, i tried Prusa, then Superslicer but i can't get on with either as i am so used to Cura. I tried Orca Slicer an i love that it can open my printer dashboard within the slicer (Klipper or Octoprint) Annoyingly while basically the same the calibration prints are adjustable in Super Slicer and preset in Orca. I'm making an effort to get my head around Orca mainly the settings but how do super slicer or its variant control overall speed? You have initial layer and all the others but Cura has print speed for the overall setting. So i did a print through Orca with default settings and basically it printed slow about 2/3rds slower speed wise

Can you recommend a good printer? I bought an Ender 3 v2 and an Anycubic I3 Mega used from Marketplace. A little tweaking and they work great. Then I bought a new Ender 3 S1 about 8 months ago. I have yet been able to get this pos to be consistent, or accurate. I have spent literally hundreds of hours troubleshooting, test printing, calibrations, then I decided to load Klipper. Though it has helped a little, it's not even close to consistent. It's a mystery every time I print what the finished print will look like. At this point, I'm ready to load Marlin back on it and put it up for sale.

Hi and good for those that use that software that is also curura I personally would not use and use Matter control slicer. Due to its simplicity and full penitration of the filament at 100% for tool making that I have found cura fails upon Structure 3d prints For my aspect I use 100% infill due to my requirement and curua fails in it strength. I don't know why but it does. So matter control works for me If you can put a video up against such slicers and give out the Verdict of why these slicer or programs differ then I'm all. Ears

I’m new to 3d printing and have gotten different perspectives on wether or not to do calibration tests for filament changes. Can somebody help me with this? Should I be doing all these tests each time I change a filament brand and color? Do I just need to do a few of them for this kind of filament change? Sorry I’m just a little confused and had no idea how much goes into 3d printing until now. I had no issues building and upgrading my printer but actually getting it to print good prints has been a problem lol. Can I make different profiles for certain filament brands, types, and colors if I do have to calibrate each time for an easy switch over? I’m going to give this superslicer a try. It seems like maybe it’s beginner friendly lol. Any tips would be really helpful. My test cube comes out perfect but anything else I try either won’t adhere to the bed or it’s warped. Just a big mess unfortunately. Thank you so much for your videos! I’ve been trying to watch most of them and get better understanding.

I love SuperSlicer, but the development seems to have seriously slowed down (I understood this would be due to health issues of the developer - whom I wish all the best and a speedy full recovery). This makes me worried that effort I have invested or worse, still will invest, might be wasted. With PrusaSlicer tree supports around the corner, I don't want to miss out on this in SuperSlicer. Arachne landed relatively smoothly in a SuperSlicer beta, but since then things have slowed to a crawl. The main change still happening on github seems to be extra issues being logged, but no bugfixes or promoting things to an official release. Again, I love SuperSlicer, but a project like this really would need multiple top developers on it to keep it at its top. Ideally PrusaSlicer should pull the SuperSlicer improvements upstream, but I also do not see this happening ... It's a pity as now I'm torn between the two with limited time to invest in improving profiles for one or the other ...

I can make branches for the various versions (which have their zip extracted in a separate folder) and the switch to that branch before starting the associated version. I would love seeing such git branching and commit support added to the slicer(s - as I do the same for PrusaSlicer) so that you basically get decent version tracking on your profiles. The slicer could just add a commit for every save you do to a profile.
