The MMA media have been really aggressive towards both Dricus and Sean, and both men have showed a lot of bravery in standing by their convictions. Rugby is a great base for MMA. When you look into it, it’s specifically tailored for takedowns. The entry points are similar to double leg takedowns. I think Volk and Dricus are two big examples of this approach.

Emotional? Understatement of the new year. And reading the comments his fanbase is ultra busy making (apparently it's only the haters who have no life, according to Jabba the Cnt... I do not concur), it seems irrational emotionalism has a trickle down effect. Dricus won because he shut down any effective offense, which would have just been more jabbing, but walking forward instead of backwards. He showed what a well rounded MMA fighter can do, and why it matters. As time goes by and you process more and more, I just think he put in a lot more strategy to keep Sean on the backfoot that he didn't need to. Sean didn't evolve, I always thought the danger was if he had been working on stuff to bring that would be surprising, doing stuff he never does. Well, I overestimated how much he wanted to hang on to that belt (oh, he wanted to hang on to it. HIs types, their insecurities... play it down but covet it with every fibre of their being) and his understanding of his limitations. I guess I'm saying, Dricus payed too much respect to the Strickland "attack" and in some ways stifled his own natural attacking qualities. I think if Dricus has to do a go around, it would be interesting if he let Sean walk forward and became reactive. Especially if Sean still doesn't evolve. But then, the pressure applied, he was struggling to think. The teep went because it was information overload. Dricus also achieved what others have not. He exhausted Sean. The TDs achieved that. Made him exert in a way he never has to. You could see his breathing being effected, you could see him almost sigh with frustration as he'd begin his climb back to his feet. It was a clever dismantling. But having faced him, I wonder if so much strategy needed to go towards keeping him going backwards. Man can barely throw a hook to save his life... but then, is he trying to avoid the padding of the glove by going with those weird ass club throws? A well earned victory, an obvious victory. I thought at the time and rewatching... Dricus 4-1. Dricus knows how those kicks to the ribs feel like. The judges know what strikes like that, not only the skill level required to achieve them, but the effect they have. The problem with Adesanya... it's nuts that he gets a title shot off a loss. He should have spent the time since his loss organising a fight with someone else. We know Dricus is hungry for that one, that it's unfinished business, but fate stepped in. The pity is, the MW division was ground down to making sure Adesanya kept his belt. Cannonier is the obvious first contender. If he only loses title fights, but wins everything else, and now the championship keeps changing hands... he's back at the front. I don't wish Jared on Dricus, styles make fights, Jared a very fit brute, so a hard fight that Dricus should have with the more adaptive style and mentality, and more rounded MMA. But tough. Drink your milk. Keep those feet battling on.

My biggest concerns for Dricus is Khamzat and Pereira. Pareira has a devastating counter punch and Dricus leaves himself open. Khamzat is just a great fighter with an excellent ground game. Time will tell.
