Ik it's hard to justify Alicent meeting Rhaenyra in dragonstone but I think for character development it was necessary. In the episode Rhaenyra tells Alicent that history will not be kind to her and that's exactly happens. In the book the War is between Aegon 2 and Rhaenyra targaryen and Alicent was completely ignored, just like in the show. I noticed Alicent was wearing light green and blue clothes in the episode, which mostly signifies she has moved on from this War and her house. But did she always wanted this Civil War, this blood shed? NO!! It was her father who sowed the seed of civil war. It was her father who told her or brainwashed her to think Rhaenyra will kill her son for the throne. And I think absence of Otto HighTower gave Alicent a thinking space to understand what's going on, what type of people she has surrounded herself. Aemond crying while asking Helena's support points toward a man who was bullied all his childhood, and now filled with anger and seeking revenge. Boy is looking for a support system and nobody wants to be that. Deamon realized by the end that he is not king material but a warrior. Rhaenyra can never in her dream can raise an army like Deamon did in the last episode. It just two different qualities coming together and forming an alliance. Also, Rhaenyra has rejected both Alicent and Cole's proposal of running away and starting a life elsewhere. Irony at its best. Personally, I was hoping for Rhaenyra to tell Alicent that she has kissed another woman. I wanted to see the betrayal in Alicent's face. A big middle finger to her, she has lost her support in the green council and now Rhaenyra also has no interest on her, a woman which Rhaenyra once loved. (Season 1 ep1-5). The ending of this season was not grand like of Season One, but this season is successful in showing us the emotional substance that the books lack. And I value that.

Removing Nettles story and merging it with Rhaena is the worst decision of the showrunners. Nettles had a wonderful story, and Rhaena did had a separate purpose by hatching Morning near the end of the war. Actually there is one more thing which showrunners did, which is the worstest thing, which single-handedly destroyed the whole purpose of dance of the dragon, and that thing is changing Alicent's story. Currently it rating is 8.3/10 on imdb, and I'm sure it'll soon fall below 8. And if they still continue to do whatever the shit they want, quality of the show will fall much and much lower. I think even D&D were better than current showrunner Ryan Condal, atleast until source material were there, D&D didn't destroyed much the story arc.
