I never got why people would want to take advice from someone with a 700lb+ bench as it's very unrealistic they'd ever get there. I'd suggest only watching people with benches under 300lbs as that's a much more realistic goal... /sarcasm Solid video, Eric's a beast.

I've been lifting weights for years and flat bench has always been my struggle. I can get the dumbells and rep out with 120s on incline with no problems. I just realized that I drove my feet down on incline and not on flat bench. I maxed out tonight and it felt like I was lifting paper. The rest of my technique was fine but when Eric said to drive your feet I said I'll try that tonight. I bet my bench is actually 20 to 30 lbs higher doing it this way. I've watched 1000 videos and it finally clicked. This is one of the happiest I've ever felt leaving the gym. I can't wait to come back on bench day and try it for real. Thank you very much for your help and these videos.
@__-yw1hb9 жыл бұрын
Bryan Grubbs I'm pretty sure I've been missing #4 on the bench, at least in the way Eric was explaining about not going from 0-100, and engaging leg drive during unrack. I keep leg drive out until I get a rep/reps where tuck and flare just aren't enough but guess this isn't going to be enough practice to be reactive with a heavy weight
@Diggle08059 жыл бұрын
Adele May yep, that's what I was doing wrong too. What suprised me was how light the weight became and I'm referring to my max. I'm not a beginner so I could already lift 225 30+ times doing it the wrong way. Once I loaded my legs at liftoff I knew immediately it was going to be easier and one thing I didn't mention was how easy it felt on my shoulders. I can't believe it took me this long to figure it out....

Question: Been doing Powerlifting for like a year now and I couldn't get the right spot where my back should be. So, you're telling me that the point of contact should be my traps? And, is it the upper part? (My listening is not that good and I'd be grateful if someone could clarify this) I know about scapular retraction and depression but when I try to make an arch maintaining a big point of contact (kinda like to the end of the trap muscle) it seems harder than just using the "traps" cue.
