*LET ME MAKE YOUR LIVES SIMPLER* For question 2,since each gallon is $4 and an go upto 25 miles,then to find how much it take for 100 miles,just do 4*4=$16. $16 is spent in order to drive a 100 miles, the driver wants to reduce spending by $5. $16-$5=$11 put that in the equation $16=100 miles $11= *x* miles cross multiply and the answer should be 68.75 miles,that means that the driver will have to reduce miles by 31.25 miles(100miles-68.75 miles) in order to save $5. After this,just make *m* the subject in each of the answer choices until you get *m* as 31.25.

It’s not “until you get *m* as 31.25.” You have to substitute *m* for the variable in each of the options until the equation is *true*.

We can create a equation directly for the second question 100/25 give you 4 gallon required for the trip 4gallon*4$ per gallon gives you total price = 16 since we want to keep the total price less than $5 than original cost, our desired price = 16-5=$11 Now (100-m) = distance we want to travel to reduce our total cost 4/25 = the cost of the gas per distance ( which cannot be changed) Now, (💯-m)*(4/25)= 11 ( remember that 11 , our desired cost) Solve for m and there you have it ......it seems long but can be solved in less than one minute. Tho she explained it quiet well, I hope it helped you in some way. BTW , i'm taking SAT this Dec and I can already feel the *lightning and the thunder thunder thunder*
@ti84satact12
@ti84satact12 4 жыл бұрын
You over thought this. You can actually make it even simpler by using the transitive property: if A=B and B=C, then A must equal C! If traveling 25 miles uses 1 gallon of gas and 1 gallon of gas costs $4, then if you reduce your mileage by 25 miles you'll automatically save $4. So that's your savings per mile! Set up the proportion: $4/25 miles = $5/m multiply both sides by 'm' and voila!

Damn if these are the hardest SAT math problems I will be fine next year! For the first one, there is only 1 value of a that could result in -8x as the first quotient. In order to get a negative quotient a must first be negative. then you do 24/a = -8, so that a must be -3. The second problem is . very easily deducable. It is clear 95 is an arbitrary number used to throw dumb people off, since it asked for $5 less, not 5 miles less. THe only answer that makes sense in terms of order of magnitudes of e is 4m/25 = 5, since m=125/4 31.25 miles. All in all, this is far easier than the SAT II Math Level 2.

Micah Palin 24 is part of 24x^2 on the first polynomial. He is basically dividing 24x^2 by ax. So the whole equation you are solving for a would be 24x^2/ax=-8x and if you just look at the equation or do linear algebra the answer is a=-3

Sean Yang some colleges require submission of all valid scores. I’m pretty sure that SAT scores take four years to expire, so if someone takes the SAT in 9th grade and does poorly it can potentially harm their college admission (if they are looking for one of said colleges, of course).

In my experience, as someone who has gotten an 800 on the math section, the best way to get good at SAT math is to take rigorous STEM classes. You not only learn what is being tested on the test but you also learn how to tackle tricky problems since the problems you will encounter in your classes will require much more intuition. However, this hasn't been the case for English as all the AP English classes that I’ve taken just make you read books, analyze them, give a test on them, and write an essay about them. It’s very easy to get an A but a 3 on the exam. I have not learned a lot of grammar rules nor have I practiced any test-taking strategies for the reading section. The only way to get better at SAT English is to self study.

Easy soln for number 2 - He drives 100 miles. Avg is 25 miles a gallon. The cost is 4 per gallon. He wants to reduce 5 dollars. Therefore he must drive 5 dollars worth of miles less. Get it. In 5 dollars you can get 5/4 gallons. And in 5/4 gallons you can get 5/4*25 miles. Now just substitute. 5/4*25 = m; 5/4 = m/25; 5 = 4/25*m. There you go.

Can’t you solve the second question with barely any math? It says that Alan would like to reduce by $5 so we know that’s what it should end up equaling. Then you can multiply $4/gal and 1gal/25 mi to get $4/25 mi. Then you can just add m as the unit to represent miles into the equation which makes sense as the miles cancel leaving the dollars left. Does this make sense or what it just luck with the question?

@@JustLikeHammer If you are not taking the sat tomorrow (october 6th), then you have a great chance) I personally increased my score from 590 to 700 in two days of hard work. Read Erica Meltzer's critical reading, analyze your last mistakes(and the whole practice test overall), try to understand, whether the problem is the time limit, or lack of concentration, or you don't understand many words. If the problem is time, then start the next practice not with a timer, but a stopwatch. Calm down and do your practice without thinking about time. After you finish, understand what caused you to be slower than it's needed(or maybe you will fit in the given time, because you didn't get stressed thinking about lack of time). If the problem is your vocabulary, I have 2 suggestions. One: as you go through many SAT passages, try to record most frequent words, and try to analyze them, finding different examples of usage or so on. Review new words everyday BEFORE GOING TO SLEEP, because it's more convenient for your brain to build new connections (memorizing) while you are calmed down(asleep). Second method: go to 1)puzzle english.com- choose the gre vocabulary and practice it; 2)go to vocabulary.com and practice new words there. Finally, not enough concentration. Start with the passage that interests you the most. In my case, I start with the scientific passage, move to social science, history, fiction and 2-passage ones. That's the best way to stay concentrated. Try to understand the passage as a whole, not line by line. Try different methods of reading it (maybe you feel more focused by reading the whole passage and then diving into questions, or you read it part by part). Do as much practice tests as you can, but don't get overwhelmed by forcing yourself to do them. Bad mood=bad scores. Eat chocolate, ice cream, or whatever you love. So, that's it) Good luck, wish you 800 on reading and writing))

Short-term: Get books from Erica Meltzer from Amazon. Practice on Khan Academy. Long-term: read US foundational documents like Constitution, Federalist papers, Gettysburg address, etc. and other substantial English-language literature.

For question 15 I worked backwards, knowing to reduce $5, I divide $5/$4 per gallons, and get 1.25 gallons, multiplying it by 25 miles per gallon, I get 25 +( 25/4 ) equaling 31.25 miles. I plug 31.25 into both option B and D, knowing that the correct option has to equal 5. Option B doesn't work out, so that leaves option D

Alan spent 1 dollar for every 6.25 miles of driving or 25 miles/ 4 dollar cost per miles. If he wants to save 5 dollars then he would have to drive 5 x 6.25 fewer miles or 31.25 miles less or 31.25m which is the same as 25/4 x 5 = m or (5) 25/4 =m or 5= 4/25m Answer D

Any high schoolers can take it but conventionally people take it at the very beginning or very end of junior year as this is when the sophomores finish precalculus/trigonometry and SAT math becomes rly easy.

The first problem you go over is not HARD at all! The hardest problems on the SAT are the circle theorems and questions that involve reading some graphs. The others are easy!

For an equation to be true, LHS should be equal to RHS. So simply equate the coefficients of x^2 on both sides.
