The animated series origin was the best one. Hagan became addicted to a face changing product because he was disfigured in a car accident. Trying to steal some more, some goons decided to have some fun and drown him in it, and that's how he became Clayface.
@85Zeroangel10 жыл бұрын
I also like that origin the best. Makes the character more sad, since he didn't mean to become clayface and only commits crime to make money in his quest to become normal again.

+usmh How long has the game been out again? Because for anything older than a couple years the "spoilers" thing doesn't really apply. I can appreciate the effort, but that's like saying you can't tell someone what the twist ending to "Citizen Kane" is just because they haven't seen it yet.
@usmh9 жыл бұрын
Joshua Morrison Yes. Don't do that. How dumb to assume everyone has seen every classic film. People don't spend their every living moment keeping up with pieces of fiction.
@DeathPaladin029 жыл бұрын
usmh Missing the point. The point was there is a certain point beyond which saying "spoilers! " isn't an attempt to prevent ruining the enjoyment of others, it's just pathetic. Typically this point arrives about the time any "spoilers" become more-or-less common knowledge. The example I gave is a twist ending that by this point is PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE. There is an ENTIRE TROPE named after it. Even people who have never seen the movie know that "Rosebud" is his sled. My point is that if someone wants to reveal a twist or plot point or other "spoiler" about something that is old enough that anyone who wants to could learn it from a web search anyway, they shouldn't be told "spoilers! "; they should be free to do so if they wish.

A detective with whom Bruce Wayne is friends, Ethan Bennet gets infected by Joker Toxin, and inhales it, with the side effect of hm becoming Clayface. It's an interesting retelling, and later, Bruce goes on to develop a cure for Ethan, which lets him be normal again. It's a nice story and for a change with comics, one with closure and an end.

I thought Clayface's origin was when Matt Hagen had an accident deforming his face, but Roland Daggett gave him some special clay that reforms his face in exchange for doing some jobs for Daggett. When Hagen failed too many jobs, Daggett stopped giving him the clay, so in an attempt to get it himself, Hagen was attacked by Daggett's men and was poured with a giant container of the clay, thus turning him into Clayface.

In my opinion, Batman the Animated Series has the most logical, and tragic, storyline for the Clayface origin. Clayface is one of Batman's more fantastical villains, and the animated series I could buy into more, over the others. I liked that it kept the original idea of a aging actor, and that he was over exposed by the cosmetic that made him able to play various roles.
@jacquobangalter26775 жыл бұрын
Clayface deserves to be in a movie. That's what DC needs to do. Just hire good storywriters to make sure they include some details from the comics into the script. Then, make sure the CGI looks good.

I prefer Matt Hagen over all the other Clayface incarnations, mostly because I grew up with Batman: The Animated Series as a kid, but also because I saw more passion in Matt than the others. Sure, Basil Carlo had so much passion for his actor career that he literally went insane when someone re-enacted his masterpiece without him, but Matt Hagen was literally burning with passion for his job. It was his passion, his life. All hail Matt Hagen.
@evilemperordude10 жыл бұрын
Matt Hagan in the animated series is really kind of a unique character to the show rather than adaptation of the Hagen in the comics. They combined elements of both Hagen and Karlo, gave him an original origin, and made him a more tragic villain.
@freudlindell634310 жыл бұрын
That's the point though, I like tragic villains. I like it when a bad guy is made out of issues that could happen to any regular person but they are hit harder by it, and thus choose a life of crime from it to try and 'get away' from that fact.

The original clay face, Basil Karlo is based off Boris Karloff who during the 30s was one of the faces of horror films such as the mummy and Frankenstein hence the character's origin as an iconic horror movie monster actor.

I had only known the backstory for the animated series incarnation. I always felt sorry for the old chap. Actually, The old animated series would always make you feel sorry for all the villains and of course for Batman as well. Man I loved that series, creepy as hell, but Loved it.

Ethan Bennet (from 'The Batman' cartoons) is my favorite Clayface, he is turned into Clay Face when Joker infects him with something can't remember the name, his design is a really cool looking one.

Would love to see an origin for Bullseye, Mysterio, Black Adam, and a hero origin for Neil Gaiman's Sandman, or maybe Jesse Custer from Preacher.

I thought the Clayface origin that was done in the animated series was the best overall. It was Matt Hagan, but with the Basil Karlo story of being an actor. However, this version of Hagan was a self obsessed actor that was using an experimental cosmetic to keep away his wrinkles as he was getting older. Long story short, the Mob doused him with gallons of the stuff, and it altered his body to the shape shifting monster he would become. However, he didn't have a time limit of his shapshifting.
