I'm convinced Man of Steel wasn't originally made to be the start of a massive superhero universe. Cos that was being made before The Avengers came out, before every studio was desperate to do their own shared universe. I think Man of Steel, like Russell Crowe said, was originally supposed to be followed by Man of Steel 2, and would've probably ended up being a Dark Knight-style Superman trilogy. Cos Man of Steel was definitely molded off the TDK trilogy's tone and marketing; with Nolan's involvement, the realistic aesthetic and even similar title fonts. Cos watching Man of Steel, you don't really get the sense it's set in a big comic world. It's a Black Hawk Down-style Superman movie where he feels like the only extraordinary thing in that world. Cos Man of Steel has a couple blink-and-you'll-miss-them easter eggs for Bruce Wayne and Lex Luthor, but they weren't in your face. And then Batman v Superman was like "BATMAN! WONDER WOMAN! THE FLASH! AQUAMAN! DARKSEID FUTURE! TIME TRAVEL!". It felt really removed from the world of Man of Steel and went 0-60 overnight in terms of making it a world of gods. I think after The Avengers came out in 2012 the studio were like "Forget Man of Steel 2, we want other big superheroes and a team-up now!"

This is exactly how it was. WB saw the huge success Marvel had. They wanted to replicate the success but didn't take their time in planning and developing the stories. I really wish they had found their own version of Kevin Feige. Someone who knew the material and took his time to strategize and bring in the right pieces for cultivating an extended universe. I've always loved Superman, I really hope WB will soon get their act together and give us a great Superman story. Kind of like how they just gave us a great Batman story. Forget an extended universe. People might not agree with me, but I believe Superman: Man of Tomorrow, the 2020 animated film, is something studios should look up to, it plays a lot with the whole Superman and DC mythos and modernizes Clark Kent while staying true to the character, in less than an hour and a half, yet at the same time, it tells an intimate story about Superman's first days in Metropolis. Even Lobo and Lex Luthor get their time to shine, and Parasite's story is very compelling, as his transformation progressively deprives him of his humanity and cannot face his own family anymore. I'd say it's my favourite Superman movie.

I do strongly believe that "Man Of Steel" was a genuinely GOOD film and deserved more justice in the form of a TRUE sequel, which unfortunately it never received and that is the ultimate crime which was never resolved or corrected. There was still much life and potential in a sequel being made, rectifying whatever "mistakes" others pointed out the 1st film had. Whether it's Brainiac, who would've been most appropriate as a follow-up Villain/Antagonist, or whoever else... Henry Cavill IS the ideal choice for a Modern Day Man of Steel, and that's coming from someone who views him as a NOT-SO stellar Geralt of Rivia. Haha

The Next Two Months proved otherwise. It was Confirmed that Warner Bros. Discovery was beginning a complete reboot for a DC Cinematic Universe with Peter Safran leading in a Financial and Corporate Sense, and James Gunn (gained the studio’s attention with the success of his Suicide Squad and Peacemaker show) will be the creative head as he would write (and possibly direct) a new Superman film with a new actor taking on the role. Cavill wasn’t upset about it. Him, Safran, and Gunn are on good terms and even welcomed him to play a different role whether it was acting or other things Studio related.

Of course, this is all Crowe knew of his role or at least what he would have been allowed to say if he knew more to the sequel. I think Henry Cavill is a really good Clark Kent/Superman and I think there was potential to see him in other films as Superman on his own rather than just being part of an ensemble for future films. At this point, an actual sequel to Man of Steel where Superman as the main focus and other heroes don’t show up at all seems to be a long shot. It would be great if Cavill got his own sequel, but maybe he’ll just want to do other films that have nothing to do with Superman now. Great video, you guys do excellent work.

Cavill, Snyder and Millar should just do their own comic book run. I'm sure DC wouldn't mind giving them complete creative control over a self contained universe. I get that it isn't as glamourus as a film but your able to so whatever you want with no budget restrictions.

I've been watching the suits destroy stuff since I was a kid and it still astounds me how badly they mess shit up. It's astounding how so many of these people chronically don't get that you have to hold to a vision to actually offer anything. Movies like Josstice League and The Rise of Skywalker that are made with damage control in mind and that aim to please everyone please literally no one. Movies like the Snyder Cut may not be liked by everyone, but they are certainly loved by those who like them, and when you compare it in quality and reception to WB's original theatrically released atrocity, I rest my case. Vision wins. Profit-over-progress suits will find a way to eventually lose every time, and every time they'll take the fans down with them. We deserved more of Snyder's world and so did Zack, Henry, Ben, and everyone else in the Snyderverse. We deserved a Man of Tomorrow, and now thanks to trusty corporate hubris and ineptitude, that's lost to yesterday. Same as it ever was.

Dam I feel bad for Cavill that he banged the drum for so long to tell more Superman stories since the Man Of Steel. It's obvious he was genuinely passionate about the character and his portrayal... I get Gunn and D.C., feeling the DCEU needed to repurpose and ultimately reboot DC on the big screen,... but maaaan, I believe of all the previously cast characters from the Justice League, that it had to sting Cavill worst of all to get the news that DC would be going in another direction.
@omniriven9806 Жыл бұрын
Henry Cavill is such a great guy, man I hope he can make the movies he's so hyped and knowledgable about. Imagine, Warhammer 40K live action (it's a truly evil and violent world), a Man of Steel even if the Snyderverse is dead already, hell have him fight Black Adam and Brainiac. I think it will make a ton of money even if it's disconnected and doesn't have any potential for a cinematic universe. Just make movies with this awesome dude.

i still say to this day if WB just rolled with the punches of the divisive reception and underperforming box office to MOS and went with man of steel 2 instead of the reactionary we need batman to save us with BVS the DCEU would be in a much better place people forget Captain America 1 only made 370 million worldwide and thor 1 only made 449 million worldwide but they trust in the process and kept moving forward with their plan

Ever since Man Of Steel came out, I’ve had an idea for a sequel that I don’t think anyone has discussed yet, and I’m not sure if it has been done in the comics before. I would do anything to have the chance for just a simple lunch meeting with Snyder and Cavil where I could discuss ideas with them, even if the movie itself would never happen. But alas, I am just a film student, far from an established screenwriter at the moment

Man of Steel was probably the best time I had in the movie theater back in 2013. Henry Cavill embodies everything I wanted to see in Superman for years now. The action was straight out of the comic books, the music was amazing, the cast was perfect, everything was awesome. It's just tragic to me that the executives and suits just refuses to appreciate what they have in Cavill and just seem to put blinders on while shooting themselves in the foot by chasing fads and making reactionary choices rather than just following through with plans. Henry's patience and hope deserves to be rewarded. #MakeManofSteel2

Honestly as an artist who isn't really all that much of a big comic book reader and only got into comics because of my dad, there's a part of me that can empathize with people like Tim Burden who don't share the same love as true comic book fans like Kevin Smith. Because like the Mission Impossible Fall Out director said the storytelling of comics is too different from the storytelling of cinema to suddenly have the two mesh together. Cinema is a reflection of the real world more than it is with the fictional world. That trend of perfectly mimcing stuff within the fictional world falls more into the realm of video games and tv shows successwise because compared to cinema they have more space to introduce creative concepts. Whereas cinema much like reality has rules and boundaries that most people would likely latch onto to tell a more compelling story. Because you are essentially filming stuff in the real world on camera. In which a lot of it isn't always going to translate well into cinema especially knowing what the requirements are going into it. So therefore I could totally understand why a lot of directors like Tim Burden and Zack Snyder would want to do their own thing with the comic book source material. Because at the end of the day it's not their story. It's all a story that exists under the influence of a different creator. And if they were to just copy word for word off of a creator's work from the source material they would essentially be dumbing down their talent. Which is something that no artist would want if they were telling a story. I mean I know if I were directing the next betch of X-Men films, I know I sure as hell wouldn't want to copy off of Stan Lee's work I would want to create my own version of the X-Men like Mark Millar did with Ultimate Marvel.

*I'm very DC'pointed in Warner Bros.* Seriously how do they not have DCEU Superman trilogy or even a Batfleck trilogy by now. Real ones not that BvS and JL are MoS and 2&3 nonsense. Batman and Superman movies were their MO for the longest time and now WB has cold feet. Now they're scared to take them out of the box.

@Snehil Shrey yeah but that's kinda their fault they sat around too long allowing themselves to become the Pepsi of the superhero genre. At this point they should at least utilize the audience they have because it's all they got they're not going to be able swoon the average viewer this late in the game without something that really swings.

Cavill more than deserves another shot at it, after what they did to him in Josstice League they should have given him anything he asked for. WB/DC really screwed up by cutting a half hour out of BvS before it's initial release. If they just released the 3hr ultimate edition, then the film would have made so much more money that the studio never would've given Zack a problem with the Justice League film!
@tylerjay2132 жыл бұрын
I don’t think making it longer would’ve given the film better legs at the box office, it still would’ve been received the same either way

@@tylerjay213 People's big complaint was that it was mess. The ultimate version fixes so many of the films problems. It wasn't just longer, it was far more coherent.
@KatarnCrusader2 жыл бұрын
It arguably would have made less money with a longer version. The longer the running time - the lesser the number of shows per cinema each day. The majority of critics and most part of the audiences still would not enjoy it as the longer cut improved things (almost) only for those who already liked the theatrical version.
@TheNameisPlissken19812 жыл бұрын

Man of Steel was ABSOLUTELY PERFECT !!! I NEVER understood all the hate about collateral damage !? WHAT was he supposed to do !? HOW !? He's new to being a "Hero". He'd never faced ANYONE or thing that , 1.was a threat to him 2.was able to fight back. He had ZERO experience and was up against at LEAST 3 aggressors who had close to or more strength and VAST combat experience as well as training. Not to mention the ships and weapons. I also don't believe that the movie would have been captivating if he'd saved everyone. Without loss there isn't any emotional cost. If there isn't a...weight, or..sense of consequence, you won't find yourself (INVESTED ). The AGONY on display across Cavell's face when forced into snapping Zod's neck was a masterpiece of storytelling. P.S. Batman has ALWAYS killed....well in the movies since 1988. Batfleck WASN'T supposed to be a "good" Batman. Rather he was on a redemption arch. Beginning with a dissolutioned and bitter older character that through his interactions with Superman and Wonder-Woman etc is brought back to the Batman who "doesn't kill ". Also the whole Martha thing was GREAT ! A surprisingly accurate representation of being.."grounded" out of a P.T.S.D. ...moment. Now if they'd changed a character's name to pull it off ? THAT would have been different, and then, I'd probably be on the hate wagon.
