Thank you Rudi! I'm so pleased to hear that you liked it. If I understand correctly, you've found a use for this technique elsewhere; what will you be using it for?
@rudideghelt3 жыл бұрын
@@WorkonaSuperyacht A lot of thing, your technique can be used for example for decorations using a rope (wooden pallets that are hung with a rope from a nail), the wind moves this rope which wears out over time. All the cortes which are outside (garden, front of the house) can be protected by this technique, perhaps not with leather but with good plastic. Honestly, the technique you use is not only effective but also pleasing to the eye. I hope my English is not too bad and that it is understandable. Have a good day.👍👍👍👍👍👍

Thank you Tingeling! As @Frank V said, I've done a video on splicing 3-strand rope; however, the rope used in this video is double braid which requires a very different technique. I plan to do more how-to videos on ropework; in the meantime, I highly recommend buying a small, pocket-sized book on splicing. I always keep one in my ropework kit for quick reference.

6 ropes on one bollard makes me anxious, theres a way to remove the one underneath without disassembling half of the marina? Must say, mooring line wear nice leather jacket, that yacht has style. Great content as always!
@WorkonaSuperyacht3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Robi! The mooring lines are dipped so that we can take one off without removing all of them. We always double check this prior to leaving, and also inform the neighbouring yachts so that any problems can be sorted out before the captain gives the order to drop the lines.

What can I say that ParatyShow hasn't said "Simple, straight forward and easy to follow step by step how to video with a nice dose of humor." Of course I was waiting for the Emer Broa Vid yesterday :) It never came... Of course with a long list of to do videos, how do you decide which one?

You are an awesome teacher, Matthew! How did you learn that leather craft? It doesn't seem like something that could be learned from reading a book, it is something that should be demonstrated, like learning how to tie your shoes. I really enjoyed watching you teaching us this very important craft.

was i reason you never glued the end before you punched the holes had an instructor said if you think you had a good idea why your answer was right yea can explore your thought on it, good person, he was NO right or wrong answers
@WorkonaSuperyacht3 жыл бұрын
Hello Jennifer, and thank you for commenting. I choose not to use any glue for this job because the stitching is enough to hold everything together. In addition, the leather must move and stretch as it wraps around the curve of the eye; sticking down the folded edges could make this more difficult.
@cedricpst95233 жыл бұрын
i really appreciate your videos they are so interesting and informative how long would it take to do this job if not filmed ?? is the eye splice on the line made by the crew or made at the factory? thank you so hurry to start in the industry :)
@WorkonaSuperyacht3 жыл бұрын
Hello Cedric, and thank you for commenting. From start to finish, this takes me about 2 hours; however, my first time doing it took a lot longer! The most time-consuming bit is stitching everything together around the curve of the eye. When stitching onto a straight piece of rope, the time is greatly reduced. I spliced the rope used in this video, but I would find it difficult to do much thicker mooring ropes. We normally order the ropes with an eye splice in them already.

Fantastic seamanship skills which are unfortunately becoming less common outside of the yachting world. Must be a tad awkward when you come to inspect the mooring lines for degradation though?
@WorkonaSuperyacht3 жыл бұрын
Hello Nick, and thank you for the feedback. The chafe gear should be removed periodically to check for degradation. Polyester ropes won't rot from being wet, and the chafe gear shields them from UV light and abrasions. The main things is to protect them from chemicals and excessive heat.

Is there drama on super yachts like on the show below deck?
@WorkonaSuperyacht3 жыл бұрын
Great question! As with any workplace, there are sometimes disagreements, arguments, romantic interests, mistakes, and accidents. In my experience however, there isn't nearly enough of this to make a TV program about. Below Deck is reality TV, and as such they must embellish and stage a lot of what happens in order to make it interesting. It's important for new crew to realise this so that they start with the right expectations.
