This collagen contains vitamin C (112%). Does that cover everything? Or should we also buy a more potent vitamin C supplement?
@Syed-wj4pj3 жыл бұрын
you might want to at minoxidil and it's collagen synthesis inhibition properties... its relatively rare... but it does happen

Compression socks relieve pain for me. What advice do you have about this treatment?
@lavayuki3 жыл бұрын
I take a multivitamin, hydrolysed collagen, Glucosamine with chondroitin and Vitamin D supplements. I've also been getting shockwave therapy in addition to physio to hopefully recover one day
@TheShumoby2 жыл бұрын
Are you recovered?
@lavayuki2 жыл бұрын
@@TheShumoby No, unfortunately not. Its a lot better, but it flares up easily and I can no longer to any impact activity or even walk for too long. I tried going back to the gym, but after two days of walking 45 mins on the treadmill my tendon flared up and I was limping around for a few days. I'm continuing to do physio and got an MRI which showed insertional tendinopathy still there, a year later.

Did you get surgery or natural recovery?

Did anyone hear about Fortigel and Tendoforte by Gelita or tried any of them? They claim to be specific collagen peptides that stimulates the repair of cartilage (fortigel) or tendons (tendoforte). I am wondering if they're better than regular collagen peptides, I have been taking the regular on and off for a long time with only a very slight improvement -tendinopathy still there- but I have never combined them with loading exercises.

What are your thoughts on Benfotiamine (B1) as a supplement for achilles pain relief??
@TreatMyAchilles Жыл бұрын
That's not something that has been mentioned in any of the Achilles research, so I don't really know. I know B vitamins are supposed to help with nerve injuries but I don't know how they affect tendon injuries.
@jct300m Жыл бұрын
Think my issue is nerve related...burning and pain after a dental infection (Dr's) said I did not have for 5 months...Achilles started with other twitching and pain...Then finally decided (Dr's) to try antibodics...5 months later....everything cleared up..but still the achilles issues on & off... @@TreatMyAchilles

For anyone reading this with an achilles tendon injury, look into transdermal nitroglycerin patches. There is a load of promising research behind them for achilles tendonitis and other tendon injuries. I've only been using them for two days and have less pain already.
@TreatMyAchilles2 жыл бұрын
That is really useful advice, Mike. It is definitely an emerging treatment that appears to hold promise. Last time I looked the research was still very scarce but the few studies available did show promise - perhaps it is time for another research review to see where it stands now.

@@TreatMyAchilles definitely! One of the articles that piqued my interest was the following, where they found benefits compared to placebo group even after 3 years: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22244067/ Another study, which I don't have handy, found analgesic effects in the short-term with them as well, which I can attest to. They are remarkable! The only thing I'm trying to figure out is how to use the patch best when you've got bilateral tendonitis! 😂

@@Mike-dt1yg brilliant! Thanks for this - have saved it to check out later.

How do you suggest taking the gelatin or hydrolysed collagen after a training session? Are there any brands you recommend?
@mimilili993 жыл бұрын
She said before, 30 to 60 min before the exercise, and together with vitamin C, according to some study.

Does magnesium (either in pill form or magnesium flakes foot soaks) have any affect? Also, more general question - your videos are super informative and make a lot of sense - does most of what you're saying (not just in this video, but about recovery/rehab in general) apply to other tendons like tib post, and plantar fascia pain?
@TreatMyAchilles Жыл бұрын
Magnesium as far as I know has no effect on tendon healing. Yes, most of the advice applies to all types of tendon injuries. If you wanted specific advice about other types of tendon injuries - check out our other KZbin channel: www.youtube.com/@SportsInjuryPhysio/videos

So I've had a few issues regarding my tendons. I just recently tore my achilles, going through the recovery now. I've torn both patellas on each knee (they're fine now I hope). What can you suggest I take that can help strengthen my tendons? I exercise daily and for the most part am pretty healthy.

Hi. Try some vitamin e 400mg daily and Mg2+. Magnesium has specially shown results for me. I myself suffer from chronic tendonitis. Have tried Mg for 7 days, it has decreased pain. Im gonna go for atleast 2 months.

I tried Bromelain, it didn't work for me, I don't know about morninga. I also tried other enzymes (papaina and one I forgot the name). I do not recommend enzymes, I regret I took them. Their effect can be hazardous.

When you talk of Vitamin C, do we take this as extra supplement besides what we can get from our daily diet intake of citrus fruits and other Vitamin C enriched foods? Thanks Doc.
@TreatMyAchilles4 жыл бұрын
That would depend on how much you're getting from your diet. In the studies that they did, they did take it as an extra supplement, but I'm sure that natural sources will be just as good or even better.

Are you familiar with the work of Dr. Keith Baar? I am not scientifically trained like you and Dr. Baar, but you both seem to be following some of the same principles in your treatment of tendons.
@johngardner18983 жыл бұрын
The vitamin C amount is small, but the 15 g of collagen or gelatin is quite high! Typically sold in capsules of approximately 1/2 gram, I would have to take 30. Do you have any alternative recommendations? Perhaps I'm failing to include the amounts normally found in typical dietary proteins like chicken, fish, pork or beef?
