I totally agree! It wasn't just the saddle bag. It was also the Dior book tote. Bloggers got gifted one too. Dior even personalised their names on it. The saddle bag is a funny shape, and at first I wasn't a fan. But I agree with you, I do give into the hype too, and now I want one. I do think it's a bit unfair that fashion bloggers got gifted the bag, because it just makes it look like it was that cheap. When in fact it's too expensive, and not everyone can afford it. Those fashion bloggers should pay for it if they want the bag. I mean we all work hard just to be able to afford what we want in life, fashion bloggers should be no exception. But I do agree that Dior fashion bloggers went a bit too extra on social media with this bag. Like with everything in life, it will die down..eventually. But I'm like you, I still want one.

Oh yesss, the Dior book tote...that has been everywhere too! I do kind of like how Harrods are personalising them now which makes them a bit more appealing to me! You are right, with all the social media these days it is hard not to give in to the hype!!! I have to admit I am kind of glad I didn't buy it straight away. As, sitting on it for the last few weeks has made me realise there are other bags that have been on my radar for way longer that I would prefer. It is hard with bloggers isn't it? On the one hand I wish I was one that got sent these gorgeous bags free of cost, but when you are not one, it is sometimes hard to see these bags worth thousands of dollars just got to big instagram people just for a post! I guess now with social media how it is, the brands must get a lot of sales!! XX

Totally agree. Designers are laughing themselves to the bank. I like the personalisation of the book tote too. However, it sucks they don't offer it worldwide. They should at the very least offer it worldwide to Dior stores, since Australia doesn't have Harrods. I think the saddle is here to stay for the meantime. I'm waiting a little while too, as I want to get other bags. But we'll see how long a crave in. xx

I totally agree with you! The way this bag is pushed is just waaaayyy too much. I thought I was the only one who was disturbed by it 😂😂 Thanks for sharing your thoughts! 😘😘

haha, judging by the comments you definitely are not the only one who thought that!!! I just wish they had done it with a smaller amount of people or over the course of a month so it wasn't everyone on social media for one day!XX

This was such a great video topic. I personally have never been a fan of the saddle bag, I think we're about the same age and it was a bit before my time as well. I honestly don't like the way they promoted it using influencers, I think it was a bit to blatant and over-handed. To me, it felt obvious that they were all being paid to wear it. You could tell that they just weren't passionate about them. For me, it loses the appeal of luxury. Like why would I go in and drop $3k on a bag when I know that they were given away for free? And it could be that I'm just not a fan of the bag so I do wonder if my opinion would be different if it were done with a bag I actually do like. Great video!

I am so glad you liked this video, it was a new video idea for me but it seems to of been received well! It seems to be a popular opinion about the bloggers getting therm for free takes the appeal of the luxury hand bag away. It is so hard in this day and age to know when it's too much. I mean, obviously the campaign has probably worked for them but now seeing it on everyone over the last month or so, as you say, has taken away the bag being special as they were given it for free. It would be interesting to see how many would post it or buy it (of the big time bloggers) if they had to pay for it!! XXX

Such a great video topic! i have to say in the beginning I really disliked the bag, but this was before the saddle bag reentered the market! I did not like this about 1.5 year ago, but then Mel Soldera made me fall in love with the saddle bag! however, I do like the double saddle bag more than the saddle bag, which was a vintage find for me so I paid less than $200 USD, which was pretty awesome! I bought mine back in February. I think that there is nothing wrong with bloggers being gifted the bag, but I was kind of annoyed that every single blogger that I followed with a somewhat large following posted the bag the same exact day... I thought it was too much!

I am glad you liked this video topic, thanks for watching!! I just can't decide if I love it or not, haha! I love the way Mel styles her items and so this bag was on my radar before the pre-lauch, mainly due to her sharing it. Ohh, congratulations on your vintage find, the sounds so amazing!!! Weldone there !!! think for me with the bloggers is like what you said, that they all did it in about 2/3 hours, I would prefer it if they all did it over a couple of weeks so it wasn't so saturated !! XXX

I totally agree with everything you say, I think that the problem is that if all the brands start doing this all influencers start receiving everything and the subscribers do not longer have the true picture of the youtubers opinion. Influencers stop enjoying doing videos as they are not talking of things they are in love with and subscribers stop enjoying it too as all content is the same. I think that is exactly what happened to the beauty/makeup community in KZbin.

I totally agree with you, it is very hard too trust what a Lot of **influencers say as they get gifted most things now. I am sure somethings they really do love, but it is hard to know which is which !!! the big you tubers definitely start to get bored, you are right, you can tell which ones are over having to lie all the time haha XX

Great video! I totally agree with everything you said. The strange thing is, before the bag came out, I really wanted one and the campaign launched, I am totally over the hype of this bag. I think the whole campaign strategy of this bag cheapens and affects the longevity of this bag. Even if it’s not true in reality, it seems that every girl owns this bag or wants to own one because it’s a ‘it’ bag of the moment which means it’s likely to be a trend rather than classic. Personally, I find the price tag of this bag is way too much for a trendy bag but guess the decision is up to individuals. If you love it so much and are going to use it a lot, why not? It’s just not for me. 🤭

I totally agree with you Chloe. I never liked the Dior Saddlebag, but when it's bombarded everywhere, I keep thinking that it's nice looking now. It's like seeing an actor who you originally think is just okay looking and then as you keep seeing them in a sitcom, they start looking fantastic. haha. That's how I felt when I first saw Friends -- I didn't think most of the characters were particularly exceptionally beautiful (except Courtney Cox), then, as I kept watching the show, they started looking phenomenal! Great video! We, as consumers, need to keep our sanity and keep ourselves in check!

Oh my gosh!!! I absolutely love this comparison, I had never thought of it that way but now you mentioned it, you are so right!! That is what happens to me with many fashion items so I think now days with the big social media presence, we have to as consumers, to try and stop impulse shopping and give ourselves a while to work out what items we would actually use and love long time, opposed to something the bloggers are wearing and are IT items of the moment. XXX

I think that this was a great video! It ruins for me the idea of purchasing the bag. I hate seeing the same thing all over the bloggers channels. It makes me not want to get the bag, I actually think that it is not attractive at all. I want to see something different. I love the accessories that Sai from Scout The City wears. While her bags and shoes are luxury brands, she always does a creative twist and they just look so much more individual. I hope that she doesn't get the dior bag, it is so overdone. Thanks for your comment! I was so nervous to do a video like this but I am really glad I did it as I have loved hearing everyones thoughts and many points!! I am half / half, sometimes I see things all over IG which make me want and item and sometimes I see something everywhere and I get so sick of it! I think I liked the idea of the bag, but not the actual bag itself. I nearly brought it a few weeks ago and I am glad I haven't!! I will have to check our Sai, I love finding new people for inspiration !! XXX

Totally agree it put me off getting the bag and I love love Dior but would not buy this bag for that reason x

Thanks for commenting`! This seems to be a popular thought haha :) So I am glad I am not the only person, although, I do definitely give in to some things if I love them and think they would work. I am very glad I didn't buy this bag though as not really loving it anymore!! XX

Chloe I know what you mean. I'm not a fan of it, but although it seems to be everywhere...in real life it's actually not. That's the thing with these social media hyped bags...they seem to be everywhere on IG and yet but in reality not so much. So get it if U like it! I caved and went for a vintage Fendi in that Zucca print... But I chose a different style than the baguette. That's my dip into the monogram frenzy for now xx 😋😊😚

Lux topia this is a really good point you make! With social media you think everyone and their sister has it but not in reality!! I’m keeping a hold on this particular bag as there is another bag that I have wanted for over a year ! So will see if I like this closer to Christmas 😝😝 ohh a vintage fendi!!! How gorgeous!!! Yes loving the monogram at the moment 💕💕

I hear your point. However, I actually liked how obvious and visible this online campaign was handled. Some influencers even explained the campaign as opposed to for example what happened with the Gucci Dionysus and the Chloe Drew, where all of a sudden those bags seemed to be every where and generated a enormous hype around those bags so that everybody (myself included) wanted one. In the case of the Dior Saddlebag, even if not one of the 100 influencers explicitly said "#AD" the fact that they all posted at the same time made it clear enough for me. I think social media users are savvy enough nowadays and don't need every thing to be spelled out.

Shanna at StyleTheLuxe this is great point. Thanks so much for sharing your view! What you say is so interesting and I do agree! Haha yes I gave in to the hype with the Chloe drew and Gucci Dionysus! I definitely do this it was obvious what they were doing - I guess I was looking at the legal side of it - they have a had a few articles that I read which was interesting to see how the escaped the legal sides! Sorry this is such a long reply !! Haha! Xx

Shanna at StyleTheLuxe For me, Savvy or not, disclosure should be crystal clear and consistent within the applicable laws by country. As a viewer, snaking around legalities to deceive is a turn-off. It is funny though, how the “hype” behind a product can be pretty powerful and then the bubble bursts and you think, “wtf was I thinking”.

I have been around the Bag game since 2002, it used to be these bags were gifted to celebrities then. It was equally annoying, in my opinion. I personally have never wanted a bag because of who’s carrying it, EVER! Women have reactions to pieces regardless of who’s carrying them, I think that’s what social media taught us. So Dior got it all wrong, the bag was having it’s moment without all of that.

I love your point of view, it is so true, wear what you love and want to wear not because of what other people wear! I think it can be hard now with the huge impact of social media because you might see a blogger whose style you really relate too, and so if they start carrying a trend item you try to think how it could work in your own wardrobe! I do think Dior got it a little wrong for this campaign haha XX

The campaign was heavy-handed for sure. “All the cool girls have it” overload, but I suppose it was hugely successful from a marketing perspective. I think the images being posted were gorgeous. Personally, I don’t think it would be practical having a split-level interior to a bag and overall it doesn’t look timeless to me. Which really needn’t matter, being timeless, but for me the cost is out of the question for trendy. Fun topic!

I am glad you e enjoyed this topic, I wasn't sure about uploading it but I am glad I did! I agree with you, I am sure the campaign was very successful in terms of sales and exposure for Dior and yes, the images were stunning!! However, as you say, it can't be that practical and after watching some youtube videos on it, I do think it would not work for my lifestyle !! I definitely, don't think it is timeless either, I think the logo and style is just very on trend at the moment xxx

Didn’t like the saddle bag back when Carrie Bradshaw carried it and i still don’t like it. Although we can’t deny the tremendous influence of social media, I think the blogger blitz cheapens the bag . Does Hermes or Chanel do such stunts? Of course not. I much prefer the Lady Dior or Diorama to the saddle bag! anyway. But to each their own!!!!

haha I wasn't aware it was a thing on S&TC until the recent re-launch. I wasn't a huge fan, then after seeing all the photos I started to like it. I am glad I didn't buy it straight away though as it is hard to tell if you like it as a bag or because of the social media influence. You are so right, the influences of social media is crazy these days!!! I like how Chanel and Hermes don't give it, and if they do, it is perhaps one or 2 bloggers that might help, not over 100 on the same day/same time! The lady Dior has been on my wish list for a few years now, so I am definitely wanting to pluck up the courage to add it to my collection this year! X
