Hi Sinead and White Yardie ❤ Great interview.Sinead🎉 I was on holiday in Xamayca when there was a hurricane I think it was in 2007 definitely the month of August. We were in hotel Riu in Negril and White Yardie is correct when it comes to the tourist the government ensure the tourists are looked after re: getting businesses ie: hotels up and running. They had generator and it was back to business as usual as soon as the hurricane passed through. Little damage was done just the trees were blown over in the hotel. One minute sun was shining, then next minute the sky was black. I didn't know it was noisy due to the double glazed or wind proof windows. When we opened the door I was so shocked to hear how noisy the wind was. We ventured out in the hurricane to see the other people we was there with, they were in the other block. Fortunately for us we didn't get hurt, I wouldn't suggest anyone to go out whilst the hurricane is in full effect. The next day when we left the hotel we could see the devastation outside of the hotel. Bare mosquito were in the area where we travelled to next and the damage was plentiful. One night in Trelawnye then the next night we stayed in hotel in Montego Bay. I spent 4 days in hotel when I arrived and then the rest of the time in Clarendon. Although the hurricane hit I weren't ready to go home back to England so I stayed till it was time to return. The water supply would get cut off by 8am so who didn't stock up pon water free paper bun. People come to the yard I was staying in begging fi wata. Some people get run way and some get wata. I went food shopping and my aunty got food shopping for me too and when the woman who's house I was staying in temporary till my aunty got electricity in her home, when she comes home she asked where the food came from. I told her my aunty got food and so did I. I said anything you want you can have. I never forget her words. She said "thank you jesus". I was puzzled as I never experienced this before. I offered her money for staying at her home she refused. It was the first time I met her and stayed at her house without notice. Her cupboard and fridge was bare at the time. I didn't know or even fathom how the hurricane impact the people. I was there to see for myself how it impact the inhabitants who are born on the land and how it is not urgent for the government to get their supply up and running as fast as they do the tourists. It is a crying shame the bare minimal is done for the community. Anyway, I have been sharing the event as soon as I saw White yardies appeal circulating and I am happy that the funds will definitely reach the people cos some aids don't reach the people who it is meant to reach. My mum and dad came to England and settled here they both disconnected from Xamayca and never spoke of their experience much. I definitely don't have a connection just my niece and nephew who are safe which I am happy to announce.. Mi luv Xamayca and mi bawl fi come back to H'englan in 2015. My patois is terrible gotta improve😂 Anyway that's my experience of the hurricane in 2007 I don't even know if name if day hurricane 😊 I'll be coming to support the event, see unno ❤
