Great video as always. I am currently reading “The Light We Carry” by Michelle Obama. I have watched the first 2 episodes of “The 1619 Project” on Hulu. I finished “The Violin Conspiracy” by Brendan Slocumb for a Bookclub I am in. At our zoom meeting for the bookclub the author was so engaging, funny and personable. It was very enjoyable and it was great read. I also read “Demon Copperhead” by Barbara Kingsolver, another great read. I really love her writing, I always feel I am present when I reading her novels. I’m in kind of a slump currently, but I am taking it it easy and taking care of myself. Happy Reading!!!

Happy reading! I'm glad you're taking care of yourself--and it sounds like you've had a lot of interesting reading going on anyway, so take all the time you need. I love Barbara Kingsolver.

Almost everything Edith Wharton wrote is wonderful. She is the greatest American woman author and possibly the best American writer period.

Thank you for the recommendation of the 1619 Project TV show. I'm definitely going to be checking that out. I have circled The Guncle ever since it came out, but just haven't had the chance to get to it yet...but I will! I just added it to the possibilities list for my marginalized authors book group. I actually finished my first 5 star read for the year this morning! It's a short story collection by Indigenous author Beth Piatote called "The Beadworkers." Her prose is beautiful and she captures relationships magnificently. I especially liked it because it is set in my part of the world (it is the first time I've read any Indigenous literature about the Pacific Northwest) and one of the stories is set, in part, in my hometown!

I hadn’t heard of The Beadworkers-thanks for the recommendation.

I don’t know how I missed both the book and TV series of The 1619 Project. I shall take your advice and watch only one episode at a time. I feel that I will be emotionally exhausted come the end of the episode. I’m reserving a copy of The Guncle and again, this book I have totally missed. That is the reason why I do enjoy your videos as they do point me in the right direction of some great reads. Keep turning those pages!

I started The 1619 Project on Audibles and had to put a pause on it due to its intense content. Agree that it makes one angry. I do not have TV so I will not be able to watch it. I have a goal for myself to do a "Finish the Books I started February" or perhaps Fridays! And the 1619 Project would be perfect for Black History Month. Some books I started were shelved as I am trying to do some book challenges and readalongs and there is just so much time. On a extended leave from my job as homecare nurse after a car accident while on duty 😟so I am using this time to recover and read a bunch. I am glad to have your video's to look forward to.

I picked up a copy of "The 1619 Project" the week it was released and haven't touched it yet. Just thumbing through it is intimidating -- I know it's gonna be a difficult/emotional read and I'm kind'a scared to take that leap. You just sold me on "The Guncle" -- it sounds amazing! I'll be heading to B&N on Sunday to bring home a copy.

So glad you've finally read The Guncle! I also loved Rowley's Lily and the Octopus, and would recommend it if you ever become ready for it...I realize it's probably not right for you now, while your wounds are raw, since it deals with the love between dogs and humans, and the protagonist's determination to save his daschound's life. Fingersmith is one of my favorite novels of all time, I hope you love it! I also love Wharton, Ethan Frome and House of Mirth are my favorites of hers, and now I'm glad you're pushing me to read Summer. I hope you have a fantastic reading month, Greg!

I think I’m going to wait on Lily for a while and maybe do The Editor-or wait for the book he has coming out this year. But I do want to get to Lily at some point. I’m looking forward to Fingersmith. I’ll be starting the audio this weekend. I hope you enjoy Summer if you pick it up!

Appreciate your thoughts on The Guncle and Summer. I've been curious about Wharton's titles since visiting The Mount ~5 years ago, but have only read A Backward Glance (autobiography, 3 stars). I just picked up Forster's Selected Stories from my library, and am looking forward to that in February. :-) [FYI: Error in description box incorrectly listing author of Fingersmith.]

Good morning. I have struggled this week with starting books and finishing nothing. I need to get myself straightened out. I am reading Our Missing Hearts by Celeste Ng. I am really enjoying it though it is hitting close to what is happening now in our country. I also have started Trust by Hernan Diaz. I am enjoying it. Have a good week and stay warm.
