Great video on this topic! One aspect not mentioned is HEAT MIRAGE. Titanium heats up faster and cools slower. And THAT can cause heat mirage that will impact how well you can SEE a target at longer shooting distances. BTW, a heat wrap will only slightly help with this.

Oceania Defense - inconel 🤟🏻 I have LMT 5.56 DI (14.5) Here's what the manufacturer writes: Ti or Inc „Weight and fire schedules. We do not recommend ti for heavy firing schedules and certainly not for training. It would be useful IF weight was a driving factor. We don't generally run ti for SURG test but it would likely run at least one time without excess erosion. It would be considered expendable or degraded after that. Inco is only slightly heavier and very robust. We have run 5 SURG tests with some erosion but no change of first baffle bore diameter. Ti is recommended for bolt action levels of fire and what we usually use for 338 LM.” What you think about this? Greetings from Poland 🇵🇱

Rob, thanks for the video. Some questions regarding the combat load and titanium cans: Is there a difference between 1 mag of 30 rounds and 6 additional mags of 30 rounds, and saying 7 mags of 30 rounds? What about the rate of fire? And is that concept (for TI) only for B&T (and maybe other mil focus manufacturers), or can that be assumed for all of them?

this was about the B&T cans. and the ROF is HIGH. I did not get all the details as this is not something that is commonly said out loud. Its kinda inside info. for me its a confidence builder. Yes, as many would say and be correct that a combat load is 6 mags. One could argue that 6 is the load. you can debate if the 7th is bart of a combat load out or not. This is why i said it the way i did.

How does titanium do vs inconel with mirage?
@artyomg75154 ай бұрын
Titanium bleeds heat faster, so it would be worse. However, construction also matters. Cans that have a baffle stack that is surrounded by an outer can will typically be the best at mirage mitigation, like how surefire constructs theirs. If mirage is a big problem for your use case, then getting a suppressor cover will be necessary. They have cheap ones for light firing schedules and beafy ones for full auto fire.

I do believe Grade 5 Ti cans have a maximum service temperature of approximately 650°F, and it doesn't take much for them to reach or exceed that. Prob 10-20 rds of semi-auto fire. Sure, they shouldn't just explode if you dump a few mags back to back. But they won't actually last long in terms of sound and flash performance.
@JohnZ5564 ай бұрын
FYI. Approx, Ti starts to turn yellow at 570F, purple at 750F, blue at 930F, light blue at 1020F, dark gray at 1110F, and black at 1290F. So if you see the outside of a Ti can start changing color. Stop it.🛑

For me it's not if a titanium suppressor can get melted easily it's the structural Integrity over the years that may be the issue. How long does titanium last in comparison to inconel over years of use? Inconel has data on this naturally. Ti can be proprietary (pure or 1 of 4 alloys or a blend of any of them) per each manufacturer be it welded, 3d printed, a hybrid blend. It's too much of a wild card with all the variations and to me that's unsatisfactory.

@rondobrondoАй бұрын
@@Ertactical Yeh i agree with Spushed. I don't care about these 'burndown'/'meltdown' tests. They're kinda stupid and don't really tell us anything about what it's actually like to USE the suppressor as a normal person. Like, is my normal usage going to damage the titanium prematurely. Like, I want my can to last at least 5 years, and more like 10 years for the guns that only get 2k rounds per year. It would be way more useful to have someone gradually ramp up the temperature on a TI suppressor to a certain point, like 800°F or something, and then fire a certain number of shots at that level, like maybe 200 rounds while keeping the suppressor above 800°F but below 1000°, and see if the can takes any kind of real damage or premature wear at all. And if not, put more rounds through it with the same rules. If that still doesn't seem to cause any issues, then bump up the thresholds to like 1000°F - 1200°F, and run the tests more
