I just binged watched this build for the past 5 days, how could you do this to me! Now I have to finish 1 of my seven projects with all of this sloppy mechanic motivation. Thanks for the videos that I can’t play that loud around my kids all the way from dumb old Texas. PS. All the cold jokes I can relate. I lived in Minot North Dakota for 9 years. -65f is really cold and I’m not ok with it.

Try preheating cast in your oven to 500 degrees farenheit before trying to weld it. Works a lot better and helps prevent the cracking

Use propane torch to preheat housing and keep as much of the housing hot as possible when welding cover with welding blanket to cool as slow as possible might try a griddle to put housing on while welding then cover with blanket and turn heat down slowly.

hey man just a tip! see that solar panel looking thing right above where you look out of your welding mask? most if not all auto darkening helmets have a solar panel to charge your mask! just leave it in the sun for 10 mins and it should be charged enough and the rays from welding should charge it as well
@jakelawson655211 ай бұрын
Tip for welding shields, cheap auto darks will perform up to there price. Either spend the money on a nice auto dark 2-300$ or just get a $30 passive lense shield and learn how not rely on autodark

Those hoods are posed to charge their self as you weld👍🏻 that housing is casted in what we compare it to pot metal, you need to try heating b4 you weld it and if that doesn’t work it’s probably not but you may get lucky👍🏻

Little tip When your drill battery go flat let them cool right down before putting them on charge, and when there fully charged let them cool right down before using them even if they don't feel warm still let them still 4 at least 15mins and your batteries will last longer and hold a longer charge 👍, as long as the batteries haven't got blown cells already

So auto dark lenses do not play well with tig welding try a #9 or #10 gold mirror and it is a welding hood not a helmet I’m slightly concerned with where the helmet thing came from considering if I pegged you directly in the head with any object that welding hood would provide 1% protection only due to the fact that the clear lenses in your hood are z87 therefore your eyes would be “protected”. I love the content and thank you for teaching me about something I didn’t know maybe you can learn something from this.

to weld cast iron, pre heat it in the oven for a couple hrs at 300-500* then torch the fuck out of it, glowing red. THEN you can weld. after welding peen the welds with a ball been hammer to relieve stress, then post heat it with the torch and throw it back into the still hot oven at 400 and slowly drop the temp over the next hr. let it soak in at 300 for an hr and then shut off the oven but leave the part in there to completely cool overnight. if its a big cast piece or your wife wont let you use the oven, a torch works just use tons of heat, seriously, TONS OF HEAT
