My first reaction on the UEF Mission 1: "Huh nice units. They turned the Megalith into a T3 Unit? Can't wait to see the experimentals" Then I saw the Dot Symbol on the Megas ... "Well that is disappointing." After that I saw the atlantis ... So they gave UEF a T3 Aircraft Carrier? Nea... wait. This is the Mega all over again. It is TINY! Then I saw the Fatboy later on ... what did they do to my boy? Overall everything is scaled down ... The experimentals, the Story. Oh god the story. Giant interconnecting storylines with interesting relatable characters turned into: A Man wants to kill an entire completely evil system, because they killed his wive (appearently). No shade of grey. A Idiotic Illuminate does not see nuke silos standing directly next to her. And a Cybran goes on a large detour before finally not-killing his enemy. Forged alliance story spans a Universe. Subcom 2s story spans a classroom ... And then ... I discovered something. Aoen. Aoen does not have Navi animore. Gone is the missleship. Gone are the Destroyers. Gone is the Tempest. No Artillery. Gone is the Rapid fire Arti and the T3 Arti. Every Faction together is one Faction from Forged alliance. UEF got Navi and Artillery. Aeon got Ground forces And Air. Cybran got Navi and Ground. Seraphim ... doesn't exist anymore. Gone are the Percivals. Gone are the Harbis. The Scathis is no more. The Monkeylord, Fatboy, Soulripper, Czar, Atlantis etc have been castrated. Gone is the Tempest. The Novax is no more. The Megalith doesn't exist animore. That thing is not a megalith. It is a T3 Tank. Sad to see the genre go down in flames ...

From all that I've gathered, SC2 is not necessarily a bad rts per se. It is, however, a bad sequel to Forged Alliance.

i mean its the first rts i've ever played and i'm liking it, seems like a good accessible game to start with to get into the genre, but i will definitely be playing forged alliance after i finish the campaign and some skirmishes, i'm gonna have to fall in love with an rts before i even try multiplayer.

Remember financial crisis of 2007-2008? Chris Taylor himself said that they were having a hard time finding funding from anyone at that time and they couldn’t do another 4-5 years of development like SupCom so they decided to scale down everything on SupCom 2. Not to mention they owned the bank money.

39:20 honestly hate the game or love it you got to admit this scene was pretty well done. In just a few seconds it completely shifts your perspective on your actions throughout the campaign up to that point. All of a sudden your the bad guy in everyone's eyes. You were being manipulated the whole time

once i heard Daxil's voice i immediately thought "this dude sounds quite a bit like Sonic" I swear it feels like i just solved a extremely cryptic 13 year old ARG when i find out that two characters were voiced by the same actor. Like when I found out that Cyrus from Warhammer 40K Dawn of War 2, Zoltun Kulle from Diablo 3 and Tranformers Prime's Starscream are all voiced by Steve Blum, crazy shit.

SupCom 1/FA: Massive scale, long-haul games (1hr+ not unexpected), requires extreme levels of skill and patience to master. Perfect for hardcore or experienced RTS players. SupCom 2: Smaller scale, shorter games (1/2hr or so but can go longer), easier to become skilled in and doesn't have as high a skill ceiling/curve. Better for casual or inexperienced players. Both games have their place. Y'all need to stop getting pissy about the comparisons.

@@thorveim1174 maybe, but it was my first exposure to SupCom. I remember reading the PC Gamer magazine article about it. Supposedly it was supposed to streamline the economy to prevent economic crashes that happened in SupCom1, as well as the upgrade system keeping base units relevant?

@@BrowncoatGofAZ yeah, for my part I dont get why they wend from a flux economy that was characteristic of supcom 1 (and its spiritual predecessor total annihilation) for an economy thats basically the standard one for RTSs. And sure the upgrades mean all units stay relevant through the whole game, but the price was very little unit variety. In 2 you have a single base frontline unit. In the first one you have a large variety to choose from, with different properties like speed, range, raw stats, ability to travel in water or not... Take the supcom 1 loyalist and the brick and compare them to really see what im talking about, both T3 units from the same faction, the loyalist is cheaper, creates and EMP on death, moves faster and reflects tactical missiles, while the brick is amphibious, much tougher, comes with torpedoes and torp defenses, and handles swarms of weak units better. They are in the same category as assault bots, but their uses are really different from one another. The lack of this means supcom 2 relies a LOT more on experimentals for unit and faction variety

No, the manual stipulates its a few years after Forged Alliance the Quantum Gate Network was deactivated so that a quick striking across the galaxy like in the Infinite War can never happen again, the Coalition has split its territory in small systems where UEF, Aeon and Cybran leave in peace and there is a unified military structure while still beeing uniquely distributed amongst the major factions.

Such a goofy story, I mean if I play Aeon I wanna play for the Illuminate, if I play Cybran I wanna play for the Cybran nation, if I play UEF i wanna play for the united earth federation. I think that's quite simple, then why tf am I playing as a boring ass UEF dude fighting his own people, a moronoic Aeon terrorist fighting against the Illuminate and a cybran dude devoid of emotion defying the leader of the Cybran nation. SC1 was better everyone knows it and I weap for the dead universe because i really liked it

One of the worst games ever made. I cringed even harder this time rewatching these awful scenes more than a decade later. The writing as bad as Walker Texas Ranger, and the gameplay: a huge dumbed down step down from the greatest RTS ever made: Supreme Commander Forced Alliance.
