Another option to consider is to relocate to an area where vacancy rates are high, putting downward pressure on rents. Areas in the Dakotas and Nebraska are like this. In Fargo, ND you can get a nice 1-bedroom apartment for $550-600/month.

I don’t think anyone has a clue what it’s like to be homeless in the heat of summer or cold of winter. No showers or laundry facilities. No calm and quiet spot for the homeless to sit down and relax. Being homeless is a lot of work 24/7.

Its not a failed response, the problem is a lot of these people have burnt every bridge they had. During COVID, they were able to spend all their money buying God knows what mostly drugs without paying a penny for rent. A lot of them are clearly content on living homeless. They go through twice a week and throw everybody stuff away who don't move it in time and they have a 2-hour window to get all their stuff out of the way or the street sweepers come by and throw everybody stuff away. Then the people have to start over with nothing which is hard to do already and then they could take that money they're using for all these trash trucks twice a week to go towards an encampment somewhere with a bathroom a shower trash can just the basics. They wouldn't be out there if they had another choice.

I am appalled by so many hateful comments. Do you think anyone wants to be homeless? People are homeless for many reasons. Illness and the inability to work. Woman escaping from abuse. People that lost their jobs and can't find another one. Some people work full time jobs but it still isn't enough to even have a 500 foot square apartment in this economy. And yes, drug addiction is also a kind of illness. Where are they supposed to go? These people need support and help not to be treated like criminals.

Praise the Lord!!! Finally!!!! I live in Seattle and Im sick of these people camping on our sidewalks. I have to step around needles and human waste and fear for my safety with all the mentally ill and drug addicts around. There should be three choices: 1) be housed in a shelter, which is offered, but they would have to follow rules there 2) treatment or 3) Jail. We have some real jackwagons here running our city. Im ashamed to have people visit.

Helping with their applications and resumes if they haven't worked in a year or two, getting them enough household furnishings, just to start of course. Some modest cookware, dishes, utensils, maybe a small TV, microwave, bedding. May need deposits to start electricity, and landlords may want first and last, possibly a security deposit. Let's see......At a minimum my guess is $3000. Extremely conservative I think. Multiplied by how many people? A few thousand. So... great plan! You have the $6 million to do that? Please, carry on! Great question, many factors. Mental health issues with no place to go, Drug and alcohol addiction.= refusing to enter treatment. Loss of housing due to increased costs. Many American's are only a couple of months away from homelessness if economic situation changed. Lack of family support when above situations happen.
