@@jangrosek4334 Alexander Kolchak ancestor was a Moldavian mercenary by the name of Ilias Colceag, born in modern day Besserabia in the late 17th century. He employed himself in the service of the Ottomans and recieved a post in Bosnia, where he converted to Islam and gradually ascended the ranks to be appointed as pasha by Sultan Ahmed III himself. Afterwards he was stationed as governor of Chotyn fortress in Moldavia as was a native and could speak the local language, sometime in the 1730s. After the Battle of Stavuchany in 1739 during the Russo-Turkish War of 1735-1739, he surrendered the city to the Russian Army led by Fieldmarshal Burkhard Christoph von Muennich and was taken to St. Petersburg as a prisoner of war, together with his son. He was later released during the reign of Empress Anna and was planning on returning to the Ottoman service when he discovered the Sultan Mahmud I had issued a warrant of execution for him on charges of treason for surrndering Chotyn fortress. This led to him remain in Russia, opting to settle in Zytomir, Ukraine , and his son would revert to Orthodox Christianity and enter service in the Russian Army and was later raised to status of landowner and aristocrat during the reign of Empress Elisabeth. I hope this clarified things for you.

@@Blackwatch8800 But that was part of his life. That woman spent decades in Stalin's prisons, and after that was featured in some Soviet movies playing roles of noble women. True story. Her life deserves a separate movie.

It is interesting that Kolceak was so devoted to Russia but he is not a pure russian etnic. His descendent,Ilias Colceak was a moldovian mercenary who fought for the Ottoman Empire(1700 years).Ilias was an orthodox christian but he converted to islam and due to his military success he became the the ottoman commander of Hotin citadel(a citadel located in northern Moldovia at that time). He fought against russians with success but a russian general offered him good terms of surrendering and he accepted. He and his son were taken hostage at Petrograd and spent some time with russian royal family. After the war ended,Ilias decided to return to Moldovia but on the road he found out that the sultan was going to kill him for treason beacuse he surroundered Hotin citadel to russians.Ilias Colgeac never return to Moldovia and he established in Poland serving the polish noble until the end of his days. His son emigrated to Russia and converted to christian orthodoxism.(he was muslim before) and started a family there. So Colceak has romanian origins. Russia and Romania were never in good terms in history but is is quite ironic that a russian general with romanian origins try to save Russia from the bolsheviks. 🇷🇴🤝🇷🇺

Colgeac not colceak. Its not ironic,Romania and romanians were very hostile to bolshevism,it was Romania that crushed the bolshevik hungarian republic in 1919 and communism never had a foothold in Romania pre 1945,even then it was difficult to implement.

You don't have to be of the majority ethnic group to be in support of it. In a similar vein, Stalin was Georgian, but very much a pro-Russian nationalist relative to the minorities within the USSR.

Russia has always had the tendency to endear great, almost fanatical loyalty to it by people who aren't, at least originally from its soil.

Well Moldova is not a homogeneous nation state, it is made up of various groups. Colgeac was from Bessarabia. The people there are not Romanian at all but an Orthodox Turkic tribe who even to today, have leanings towards Russia.

Well "Epic History" is Absolutely EPIC as always. Watched Napoleon 50 plus times at this point and Kolchak series 20 plus times. Especially when this is Suppppppperrbbb History series. When sir Charles Nove says "SUPPPEEEERRBBB" it always gives me Goose Bumps. From background music to Superb Narration, this Channel Numero Uno hands down.

I think this video needed a more detailed look at the differences between the Bolshevik faction and the socialists fighting with kolchak. The video has a very pro kolchak vibe, but it sounds like he happily turns on his socialist allies, and we are expected to just understand that is a good thing for no reason. It's very noticeable to me and I am just a humble admirer of most of the videos you guys do.
