Thanks for this. I adopted my first crestie at the end of October and was shocked to discover my 6 gram baby was almost a year old. He's putting on weight, but I'm always looking for more ways to encourage his growth. I've been giving him mini dubias, but after seeing this I think I'll switch to a larger size.

great advice Wally!! A few months back I decided to move a few female cresteds that seemed “stuck” in the weight scale from a room in the house that stays cooler 68-75 to the animal room that stays 80 all year round and I have noticed the metabolism speeding up and their growth just getting better and better. I’m mostly doing this for those females that I want to get to breeding weight for the spring as for babies I do personally prefer a slower growth rate to ensure a healthy development!!

I have a heat question. I’m setting up a bio active vision cage with the light mounted on the inside. It ramps up and down to simulate daylight and grow plants. At the peek of the day an inch or so from the light it get to about 82. Now 5 inches down it’s my like 79 and on the ground it’s 75. So because they move around for the best temperature this is ok right? I have been reducing the output of the light periodically and rechecking. But I wondered if I’m over thinking it.
@SupremeGecko
@SupremeGecko 3 жыл бұрын
It does seem like you've taken a lot of time researching this. Good for you. Yes, as long as you have temperature gradient that are within the animal's requirements, and they can self regulate, the will do great. Make sure though your high temps are not too high.

What’s the best thing I could do for heat, the heat in there only ranges from 70-75 but most of the time 70. My others are in 6 quarts and one in a 25 quart. Loved the video 😊

I think you forgot to mention genetics....we have adult Geckos that are just smaller then others from different breeders. We also recently had twins pop out of one egg....the behemoth that popped out of that 2nd egg is today still twice as big as the twins. All three tanks are right next to each other, all three eat the same food at the same schedule, and all three came from the same parents. Bubba looks like one of the twins while the other looks different from the parents. A genetically large gecko will create more large geckos....I would like to see more breeding for large animals....100 gram examples for instance with big structure rather than obese. I've seen some big one's from a single breeder at Tinley not too long ago. Thanks for making the videos! Happy Holidays

Well, in nature, they find it. So, in captivity, my thought is that from a health standpoint it does not matter. From a keeper's ease of feeding and an enrichment point of view, it might be better on the side. But again, I think this is a very minor point.

The two grew up together, and are of course a male and female. You have babies (baby). That is so cool!!!! How exciting. It's a tough call whether you should do a big search for the second one. I hate to say it like this but there is a strong possibility the other little one is no longer there. If it were me, yes I would search. Let me know what you decide.

NEVER apologize for questions. That's actually why I do these videos. And.... this is a great question. I always realize I forget something AFTER the video is done :( I keep the heat on for 25-30% of the enclosure all night long. Adults can benefit from temp. drops. Babies love to be warmer all the time.... plus, in the other 75% of the enclosure, temps to drop down as my facility is in the basement and it drops down a few degrees at night.

First, great hat! Second, I rescued a crestie from a reptile show. So Kermie (the gecko) is probably 7 mos old and I cannot get him to eat pangea very well. We've tried 4 types, then Hikari crested gecko food. I change food out daily. (Not type, just fresh) He will eat crickets and dubia though. 72-78 degree gradient and 40-85% humidity change throughout day/night. What am I doing wrong
@SupremeGecko
@SupremeGecko Жыл бұрын
Thank you! Love the hat. Congratulations on your new crested gecko. #1- It's not terrible that it will not eat the diet. Make sure you dust your insects!!! #2 If you want Kermie to eat the prepared foods, stop feeding insects for a week or two. Keep adding the fresh food every other day. #3 Dust your insects with the diet so the gecko associates the smell with something good to eat. #4 Try enticing Kermie to eat the diet with just a drop of honey in the mix. Keep me posted!

@SupremeGecko

It really depends. Smaller insects more, larger insects less. I like to feed 3-5 mealworms at one time when feeding babies. 7-10 for juveniles. When feeding juvies or adults, I feed about 4-5 adult crickets at a time.

its ok to leave the food (pangea gecko diet ) in the enclosure 48 hour ??? in the video you mention monday give the food and wednesday refill , its that ok ?? the food wont spoil in 2 days???
@SupremeGecko

Absolutely. Leave the food in for 48 hours. Yes, after 48 hours, 'replace' the food. If the food molds, there is too much moisture constantly in the enclosure. Let me know if you have other questions about this. I would love to help.

I just got my crested on Sunday, hes 4 months old currently has repashy in his enclosure. Not sure if he's eating it, I gave about a small baby spoon full in a small bottle cap. Have you ever given dried mealworms to cresteds? I know they're not as good as live but was curious. I do have dried mealworms on hand, trying to find a way to use them up. I also have pangea with insects coming in the mail since its not locally available where I live.

@@SupremeGecko I'm upset because you method seems to be raise the temp and gorge them on food. A very Tyson's chicken approach to raising a gecko...why does it have to grow fast anyway? You know what causes reptiles to grow right? An oxygen rich environment. Not jacking the heat or stuffing them with food. An oxygen rich environment and proper amounts of food with good nutrients. Small amounts of uvb to help maintain strong bones and with natural calcium conversion.
