At 0:24, Ramana Maharshi equated Prana or life-force with Atma or Soul in the absolute context that Shakti (life-force) is inseparable from Shiva (Soul or Consciousness). Only in relative terms one can say that Prana is separate from Atma.
@kumarlaxman40010 ай бұрын
Prana isn't Atman. Atman or Self is the source. Prana is the energetic manifestation of Atman. Prana is connected with the mind but they are different. If you regulate Prana, the mind becomes controlled. Prana is far more subtle than mind. The external manifestation of Prana is breath. Control breath, prana is regulated and mind subdued. Hari Aum.

In many hindu scriptures It is explained that you are neither praan(life force, breath) nor mind. You are the experiencer, knower, seer of these. The entire universe including, body, mind is an object of witness to you the pure consciousness. Also notice it is mentioned in Taittiriya upanishad that mind is subtler than the breath. Breath is gross as compared to the mind. Five sheaths of the pure self in Taittiriya upanishad are annamaya sharir or body, praan maya sharir or breath, manomaya sharir or mind, vigyaanmaya sharir or intellect & anandmaya sharir or bliss. They are in the order of getting more subtle.

@@beingself5333prana and breathe both are different. Mind is subtle than breathe but prana is subtler than mind. Without prana mind cannot function. Source of both prana and mind is self.
@beingself53337 ай бұрын
@@laxmikant7427 My friend word used in Taittiriya upanishad while describing five sheaths of the self is praan & not breath. It says you are not the body, look subtler anyo antar atma praan maya, still subtler anyo antar atma manomaya & so forth. It states that anand maya kosh is subtler than the vigyaan maya kosh, which is subtler than the manomaya kosh, which is subtler than the praan maya kosh, which is subtler than the anna maya kosh. Thus it states that mun(mind) is subtler than the praan. In english we may say praan means life force or energy or breath or may disagree over breath, but in the upanishad in sanskrit it is mentioned that mun(mind) is subtler than the praan.

When you do Gayatri Japa, pranayama, or meditation, in the initial stages, you would experience feelings of anger and mental disturbance. That is because the practices are performing a cleaning process, scouring and flushing out all the dirt in the mind, which has collected over a long period of time - maybe over several incarnations as well. All negative attributes are flushed and thrown out, like feelings of anger, jealousy, etc. Gradually, over a period of time, the thoughts subside and the mind grows serene and peaceful. Remember, we have evolved over 84 lakhs of lifetimes. A lot of karma has been wiped out, and a lot of new karma has also been added. Do not get discouraged. Tell your father to reduce desires and to give up unnecessary imagination . Pranayama, over a period of time, will silence the mind and bestow peace. Patient practice is needed and never become disheartened.

So when Vasistha says in the Maharamayana, that Pranayama is one of only two ways that one can attain both turya and turiyatita in contrast to these words of Ramana Maharshi, could it be said that Pranayama is only truly meant for or best utilized by individuals whom have become afixed in a state of Sattvic awareness mostly through experiencing a great amount of love in their life in whatever way or ways that God would bring that about for them? Whether marriage, Sangha, great peaks of Bhakti or service to the needy, or a combination of many of those human experiences of love, etc. please????
@lonelystupidwar10 ай бұрын
Also, could it be said for a being that is a "Buddha" the experience of being able to practice pranayama is a vasana or an unconscious characteristic of their psyché because of having experienced so many incarnations please? Or is there no such conception of something like that in Sanatan Dharma please?
@everthingtotal879810 ай бұрын
No it cannot be said. The awakened Self, or, "Buddha," makes no such practice or even progress due to previous incarnations. Karmic vasanas may still be there, but the vasana is now transcended. It will play out while the Awakened One simply watches it, free of suffering. Know that any man, at any time, can fully go past his vasanas, regardless of his many or even few, incarnations. Pranayama is not just meant for sattvic condition. Sattvic is karmic also; do not get stuck there. Let your questions die; do not hold to them. Forget anything the mind is offering you as the way forward. Sit and watch everything and be alert. If mind speaks, simply ignore it as not important. Settle your mind down. Mind is doubting your purity. Atma does not have doubt. So, doubt is no longer of value to you because it is the fantasy of your unimportant mind, not your great truth. Shalom, shalom, shalom. May you have peace.@@lonelystupidwar
