Those aspirants who do not feel any natural inclination for traditional forms of yoga or spiritual disciplines, can practice "Self-enquiry" - a direct method to attain knowledge of the Self, recommended by sage Sri Ramana Maharshi. Just like Bhakti Yoga, Self-enquiry is also relatively easy to practice, and the beauty of this method is that it takes us most directly to liberation if practiced consistently with discipline and sincerity. Self-enquiry is the constant attention to the inner awareness of "I" or "I am". Through regular practice, the "I"-thought or "ego-consciousness" will disappear and only self-awareness remains. This results in an "effortless awareness of being", and by staying with it, this self-awareness gradually destroys the vasanas (mental impressions) which cause the 'I'-thought to rise, and finally the 'I'-thought never rises again, which is Self-realization or liberation.

There is no such thing as liberation, given that there is nothing to liberate. Self permeates all of existence and in this moment, manifesting me typing my understanding on this thread. You, reading these words, the words, the computer, the chair, the house, cat, car and cow, etc. are all "self" expressions within the field of self. Sub atomic, macro-cosmic, light, density, spaciousness and so forth is nothing but self. In each self's birth, continuation and dilution, there is nothing but the self. Personality or ego is self-localized. Self-expressed and more often than not through faulty education, self-forgetting and when self-constricted through all sorts of self-centered behavior, the inner and outer expression is selfishness. Selflessness is nonattachment to localized name and form. Self-awareness is that self is aware that it is intimately connected to each and every forming expression of self. Constricted self evokes fear. Expansive self evokes love. Cosmic self evokes bliss. Fearlessness is intuitively knowing that whether in the waking, dream or dreamless state there is nothing and no one to fear. When fear arises, it is still self dancing clumsily with self, colliding with self, living and dying as self and always reborn. Personality is merely a fleeting expression of self in an endless play of names and forms. Self is nameless, formless somehow, always giving birth to names and forms. Science is self wanting to see itself. Religion is self wanting to know itself. Both are self journeying endlessly within and beyond space and time. Self has been served!

Yes there are individuals who can give you Self Realization. They are known as a Gnani Purush or a Sat Purush. Only a lit candle(enlightened being) can light an unlit candle(us). You must have great merit karma to cross paths with such a being & to obtain the eternal from Him. If you are truly interested, look up Akram Vignan & go from there! I recommend to start with researching "Self Realization" &/or "Who Am I?"

It's also like bubbles in the water....they appear to be many and individual but when they dissolve....they just merge with the rest of the water because they never had any true individuality (this is how bodies and egos are)..... Another example is the waves in the ocean can appear to have diffirent forms and sizes but they are not seperate from the ocean..... A WAVE isn't an actual individual entity.

According to Upanisad, the reality is Turiya, i.e. the fourth stage. Deep sleep is the closest to the Turiya, while all the three stages, i.e. wake up, dream, and deep sleep are unreal, just like the world we are living actually is unreal. So to renounce from this world is so easy if we know this world is unreal.

R you sure, thosr words are from Ramana Maha Rishi?
And yet he still ate, he still slept and presumably he also dreamed. He ordained that certain buildings should be erected in his ashram, he had a doctor handle his cancerous growth on his arm. While these things didn't affect the 'self' they still had their own existence which he apparently acknowledged by reacting to them. Why give talks to people if they don't really exist (as a body mind complex) and what is it that gets awakened, the true self? or the illusory persona (can an illusion destroy itself?)
@Alephkilo2 жыл бұрын
Good observations. The body functioned as it should without any personal preferences.. but that wasn’t the Self. Bhagavan himself joined in the chanting of Ramana Sadguru. When he ate, he mixed all the dishes together. He had no preferences. He emphasised the construction of the cow shed as he believed that would bring about the blessings of Cow Lakshmi upon the Ashram. He didn’t seek doctors to treat his cancer . They were called for by the devotees. He merely submitted to the “ higher power”. The realised man, we are told has no sankalpa or personal desires. That which is expressed is that of the Lord himself. There is no difference between Him and the Lord. Jesus tells Thomas the same in logos 15. Jesus said, "When you see one who was not born of woman, prostrate yourselves on your faces and worship him. That one is your father." Shalom.🙏

+Dhairya Shah, Yes. Sri Ramana Maharshi Delivered these teachings in a time when film industry was gaining popularity in India. "Raja Harishchandra", by Dadasaheb Phalke, was commercially released in Bombay in 1913 and thus India got its first silent feature cinema. By the 1930s, the industry was producing over 200 films per annum. The first Indian sound film, Ardeshir Irani's Alam Ara (1931), was a major commercial success. So obviously Sri Ramana Maharshi used the example of "screen and pictures" many times in his life to convey his spiritual teachings in an easily intelligable manner. And Sri Raman Maharshi continued to teach his followers and devotees until he attained Mahasamadhi on 14th April, 1950.
