this was easily my favorite track on the album. the way that a french national tune is flipped to create the image of free africans taking back what theyre owed, helping themselves to a party on the last vestiges of old empire? its gorgeous.

The building he shot this at is the Citadel in Haiti. It’s a fort built atop a mountain; it enabled cannons to shoot all the way to the sea without ships being able to fire back. The fort is filled with guns captured from French ships. They all bear their original French names. Recently some of them were stolen.

As an insatiable listener and middling decoder of Mach’s music, along with being someone who has been able to appease my wanderlust, beginning to travel the world, I’m oftentimes amazed by the way I am able to recall my familiarity with foreign objects through his lyrics. Of course, some of the worldly knowledge in his music was taught to me in school and some of it learned through reading, but I’m not immediately reminded of say, the Ottoman Empire, when I hear a line like “high as Sophia out in Turkey”. It’s only when I visited the Grand Mosque during my trip to Istanbul and listened to the GAT: VI on my way back to my hotel room that I understood the line. Now, I’ve comprehended the essence of many of his lyrics without international flights, novel readings, or films, but these frequent cross-referential revelations not only make me increasingly adore his music and his mind, but they add layers of enjoyment to mediums that I love to engage with. It is a kind of serendipity that makes make want to explore so much more, and more, and more!

Yeah man I don’t know how he dose this, not to mention all the Haitian and Jamaican references bc I’m both of those cultures in one, I’m so lucky plus i love to read now and explore the world without being a passport boy 😂, what literature do you recommend that references Mach or viseversa I should say. Also I don’t have any of the exclusive Mach project I cant afford it but one day soon i will.

The parallel similarities between the global power structures and those subjugated by them bare such a striking resemblance. The means which desperate people will resort to in order survive mimic’s the nature of capitalism. The lens which Mach uses for the listener to gain perspective of this is so well articulated,it’s insane ! This track for instance delves into geopolitical components but you can also look at it from a drug king pins view .
