I like knowing the Tafsir of this too. It was a revealed at a time to prepare the Prophet (saws) and the Sahaba for encounters with Christians and Jews, and to help the Sahaba in particular to better conceptualize their role in this life as non-prophets, which is why Allah narrated the three stories of non-prophets whose work was accepted by Him.
