I think another contrast is that Yusuf A.S was put through major trials since his childhood and when he grew a bit old his trials were not that major (according to the little knowledge I have) where as Musa A.S was not put through major trials when he was young bcuz he grew up in a palace but as soon as he reached his adulthood he went through major trials. Ameen. Havva K, thanks for good prayers and wishes, but its a bit rude when you say sm like may Allah forgives you) especially when this person is a muallim, teacher. On the other hand we should say to sm who offends or hurts us, like, may Allah forgives you because you acted wrong. But still we pray for others for forgiveness of Allah, but silently, not loudly or not by writing as a comment. Could I make myself clear? I ask your apologies if i hurt you

~Takeaways to apply to your life~ 1. *There are going to be people in your life who hurt you and say that they are "doing you a favor"* : Yusuf's(as) brothers think their dad must be confused 2. *Even prophets aren't free from trial of family-your family could be your greatest savior or your trial* : Yusuf's(as) brothers vs Musa's (as) sister 3. *Don't nitpick and try to be smart/sarcastic with your parents' words, just understand their point* : Musa's(as) Mother said follow him "step by step", instead of saying I can't step in water, or "you want me to swim after him?", she just obeyed and got the job done (she understood her mom wasn't making sense because she was desperate" 4. *Allah has a plan for the weak-don't lose hope(despite the aggressors)* : Yusuf(as) was put in jail but later they came to him for help 5. *Iman is both word and action* : (prayer is equated with Iman in Quran- "Allah would not be one to waste your Iman" Allah says when changing Qiblahs) -Yusuf(as) was threatened to be thrown in jail if he didn't DISOBEY Allah(SWT) (commit zinna with the wife), Musa(as) threatened to be thrown in jail if he didn't stop BELIEVING in Allah(SWT) but they both refused 6. *TOXIC LOVE- people who love you could be destroying you and taking you away from Allah* : Yusuf(as)-caretaker's wife loves him Musa(as)-Pharoah loves him 7. *Things don't turn out the way we expect* : In both stories, the caregiver gave the villian 2 options: EXACT SAME WORDS: He could benefit us(servant), or we could take him as our own adopted child Yusuf(as) is taken as servant even though caregiver loves him (expected decision was adoption) Musa(as) taken as a child even though Pharoah IS KILLING ALL CHILDREN (expected decision was service) -Allah (SWT) placed love of Musa(as) in Pharoah 8. *When people try to do their very BEST in something (especially strive in Allah's way), Allah helps you and open doors for you* : "When he reached his mature years(teen years), we gave him wisdom and knowledge" - Allah(SWT) says EXACT SAME AYAH to describe development of Musa(as) and Yusuf(as) -but wisdom and knowledge aren't exactly qualities found in teens, but Allah (SWT) gave it to them because they are trying 9. *You can gain spiritual knowledge even in a disbelieving environment* : Musa(as) duah "rescue me from the wrongdoing people" Pharoah's wife says same duah "rescue me from the Pharoah" ~Musa(as) probably learned that duah from Pharoah's wife (who was the mother figure for him) 10. *People from high status(uses power) and lower status (uses pity) than you could be your trial* : Prime minister's wife uses her power to get him to do wrong thing Israelite, despite being lower status, uses the "I'm your brother" card to get Musa(as) to pity him, and make an unfair judgement- YOU COULD BE DOING MESSED UP THINGS because you feel bad for someone! 11. *Rushing is from the devil- do not rush into a situation before understanding it, don't generalize and think you've seen the situation before and don't need to analyze it* : Prime minister's wife wanted to hurry Yusuf(as) for evil intent Musa(as) rushed to help Israelite out of good intent (but killed someone) RUSHING IS BAD REGARDLESS, Musa(as) says right away after punching the guy, "this is the work of the devil" 12. *The sin of Zinna is like Murder!- Allah puts the two in the same ayah saying not to do them* : Zinna- taking away someone's dignity, killing your spirituality, crime against Allah Murder- taking away someone's right to live (and dignity), crime against humanity 13. *When you catch yourself heading towards haram* - be like Yusuf- say Allahs name out loud- seek Allah's refuge before 14. *When you've committed a sin- be like Musa(as)* - he admitted his mistake afterwards and asked forgiveness, didn't just blame the devil 15. *It doesn't matter if someone is the same race or religion as you- DO NOT SUPPORT CRIMINALS* : Musa(as) realized this when he supported the Israelite -don't be loyal simply for being from the same race

Thank you for providing history and context and for explaining nuances that can easily be missed when reading a clunky English translation. JOURNEY (Comparison) 1-Yusuf AS is dropped in a well with a risk of drowning. In a standing water. Not going anywhere. Musa AS is dropped in a river with a risk of drowning. In a flowing water. Flowing with the water. 2-Someone will come to Yusuf. A caravan will come to him and retrieve him. Musa AS will go to someone. The basket will go to the palace. Pharaoh’s family will retrieve him. The verb “iltiqat” - “retrieve” is used for both stories. 3-Yusuf AS ends up in an Egyptian Palace. He gets sold into slavery. First, they hide him and sell him pretty cheap. A minister buys him. Musa AS ends up in an Egyptian Palace as well. 4-Yusuf AS is retrieved by an influential man, the minister, Al Aziz. The minister instructs his wife to keep him respectfully. They could keep him to serve themselves, but he was so special that they even thought of adopting him. However, they ended up keeping him as a servant. Musa AS is retrieved by an influential woman, the wife of the Pharaoh. She requests her husband to keep him, “Please don’t kill him.” She told he could be a servant or a adopted child. Although Pharaoh could not tolerate Israelis, they ended up adopting him. 5-The wife of the minister has a misguided love for Yusuf. She has a crush on the servant of hers. Although Pharaoh hated Israelis, he loved Musa. “… And I have bestowed upon you love from Me, so that you may be reared before My eye.” (Ta-Ha, 39) His love was guided, divinely inspired by Allah SWT. This love kept Pharaoh to kill Musa even in the future when he came back to Egypt. 6-Because of that unguided toxic love, Yusuf AS was put in the jail. She said, if he does not do what I want, he will get thrown in jail. Asking him to disobey and take an action against Allah. (amal) 7-Pharaoh said, if you take a god other than me, you will get thrown in jail. Asking him to disbelieve in Allah. (iman) Allah equates iman with faith. When believers changed their qibla from Jarusalam to Kaba’, Jewish community of Madinah told Muslims, your previous prayers were not counted and wasted. Allah SWT said, Allah would not want to waste your iman. He did not say your prayers. Our prayers are actually our iman. Iman and prayers are equated. In another verse,” He did not confirm the truth nor prayed.” Both Yusuf and Musa AS are threatened. Sometimes we are threatened by our caregivers not to be loyal to Allah SWT. Although Yusuf’s caregiver was told to honor the residence, this is how she treated him. Musa was raised as Pharaoh’s own child. He used emotional manipulation and said, I raised you, and this is how you are disobeying me. The mother of Sa’d bin Ebi Wakkas emotionally blackmailed him: if you love me, leave Islam. 8-The aggressor is someone who loves him. I love you so you will go to jail if you do not do what I want. Ruining someone’s life with love. Pharaoh loves Musa with acts of regression too. 9- After leaving his father at an early age, Yusuf is raised without a spiritual mentor in a non-Muslim environment. He only has the memory of the spiritual mentor from his father Yaqub AS. Yusuf AS has two spiritual mentors. His birth mother, a woman with faith and adopting mother, Asiya, most amazing believers that ever lived. When he was escaping from Egypt, he said, “Oh Allah rescue me from the wrongdoing people.” Surah Shuara. In Surah Tahrim, the wife of Pharaoh made exact the same dua as Musa AS. If she is making this dua, Musa AS probably learned this dua from her.

Alhamdulillah, great lessons. It came a cross in my mind... Another comparison. The story of Musa was began with mother, no mention of father, because he was infant baby at that time. Yusuf's story begins when he was a child and he was attached to father, no mention of mother. Because, a child always looks his father as role model and he feels strong when he is with his father. Therefore, he told his dream to his father. This tells us that a boy should be in the hands of father since father has big role to nurturing him. This us my understanding

I’m not sure as it is mentioned already on one hand the brothers of Yusuf AS we not seen in good light but for Musa AS the brother was spoken with honour (as well as his sister).

Harun(AS) was Musa(AS)’s brother, and a prophet. There is no gender attributed to being evil or good in Islam. Allah knows best.

Assalamualikum Everyone, Enjoy-Fun Parts: 36:58, 39:47, 52:32. Notes of the Lecture: Siblings' Comparison Why siblings are important to analyse: “For sure in Yusuf (a.s) and his siblings are signs for seekers". Yusuf (a.s): Brothers of Yusuf. Musa (a.s): Sister of Musa. Yusuf (a.s): Brothers leave the house Musa (a.s): Sister leaves the house Yusuf (a.s): To get rid of him Musa (a.s): To retrieve him Yusuf (a.s): Brothers Abandon Musa (a.s): Sister refuses to abandon Brothers left him in a well and walked away. Sister follows the basket until it enters the palace. She didn’t walk away and kept waiting until the wet nurses came. Yusuf (a.s): Brothers cause separation Musa (a.s): Sister causes reunion Allah (s.w.t) shows us that even prophets (a.s) are not immune to trials in the family. We can be given a family that becomes the cause for blessings in the family, saving and protecting that family and sometimes our biggest troubles can be in the family. Yusuf (a.s): Brothers violate trust Musa (a.s): Sister upholds trust Yusuf (a.s): Brothers tell a creative story Musa (a.s): Sister tells a creative story Brothers came back with animal blood on the shirt but the dad knows them. The sister tells a creative story about her own family (to the wet nurses). I know people who live in a house and they can take care of him. Brothers of yusuf (a.s) said “we mean well for him: nasihoon” and when the sister talked to them she said “I know of a family that can take care of him, la nasihoon”. Exact same words used. She doesn’t speak directly but creates a story. Sister tells the story so they get united and brothers tell the story so they get separated. Her creative story did not involve lying, but in case of brothers it did. Yusuf (a.s): Brothers talk back Musa (a.s): Sister obeys quietly Brothers talk back and convince the father to let the son go with them. When the mother asks her daughter to follow him, she doesn't say how, why , but obeys quietly. Mom says the wrong thing, but the girl understands it and does the right job. (wrong word came out of desperation: follow step by step, which is not possible, but the intended meaning was to not lose sight of the baby). Children need to understand that they need not pick at the faults of their parents and understand the point they are making. Yusuf (a.s): Brothers have no clue what's coming Musa (a.s): Pharaoh has no clue what’s coming. Allah (s.w.t) tells yusuf (a.s) that you will be telling them what they have done to you and they have no idea. They have no clue that the one they schemed against will backfire and will receive the embarrassment. Similarly, the Pharaoh has no idea who he just picked up. His plan to kill all the babies is gonna backfire and he has no idea. And profoundly the same wordings are used in telling both the ends: wahum la yashoroon. Sometimes you are helpless against the people who scheme against you. They think what a helpless person is going to do in response to this. Allah (s.w.t) has a plan for the weak that the oppressor doesn't know how to counter. Yusuf (a.s): In the later part of the story, brothers are told by the father to tread carefully in Egypt Musa (a.s): Sister doesn’t have to be told to tread carefully. Yusuf (a.s): Holds scarred memory and opinions of his brothers Musa (a.s): Holds high opinion of his siblings (Haroon (a.s)) In the brothers’ head they are doing the right thing. They become delusional and think they are doing a favour to their father. Comparison of the Journey of Yusuf (a.s) and Musa (a.s) .........Long Texts aren't supported in KZbin Comments. BENEFITS OF ISTIGHFAR ►Istighfar removes anxiety and Du'as are answered. ►Istighfar opens the door of sustenance. ►Istighfar opens the door of mercy. ►Istighfar opens the door of knowledge. ►Istighfar is also gateway of productivity ! ►Istighfar relieves you when you feel that sadness within you, when you are disturbed and frustrated, and also when anxiety surrounds you. Always say Astaghfirullah Astaghfirullah… ~~Don’t leave Istighfar A man once came to al-Hasan al-Basri and complained to him: “The sky does not shower us with rain.” He replied: “Seek Allah’s forgiveness (i.e. say أستغفر ألله).” Then another person came to him and said, “I complain of poverty.” He replied: “Seek Allah’s forgiveness.” Then another person came to him and complained, “My wife is barren; she cannot bear children.” He replied: “Seek Allah’s forgiveness.” The people who were present, said to al-Hasan: “Everytime a person came to you complaining, you instructed them to seek Allah’s forgiveness?” Al-Hasan al-Basri said, “Have you not read the statement of Allah? ‘I said “ Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Truly He is Oft-Forgiving. He will send rain to you in abundance; increase you in wealth and children; grant you gardens and bestow on you rivers.”‘” [Nuh (71):10-12] There are two things in the earth that give a person safety and security from the punishment of Allah. The first has been removed, whilst the second still remains. As for the first, it was the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). “Allah would not punish them while you were among them.” [al-Anfal (8):33] As for the second, it is istighfar. “Allah would not punish them as long as they sought forgiveness.” [al-Anfal (8):33] أستغفر ألله… أستغفر ألله… أستغفر ألله… Do not ever leave istighfar! Please share and remember that you will receive the reward for all those who make istighfar, due to your reminder. Astaghfirullaaha wa ‘atoobu ‘ilayhi. I seek the forgiveness of Allah and repent to Him. (Recite one hundred times during the day) It was reported in Saheeh Muslim that Prophet Muhammad (S.A.W.) said: “I seek forgiveness one hundred times in a day.” [Muslim] Du'a for seeking forgiveness: Dua of Prophet Adam (A.S.) Rabbana zalamna anfusana wa in lam taghfirlana watar hamna lana koonanna minal khasireen [7:23] ”Our Lord ! we have sinned against ourselves and unless You grant us forgiveness and bestow Your mercy upon us, we shall most certainly be lost." رَبَّنا ظَلَمنا أَنفُسَنا وَإِن لَم تَغفِر لَنا وَتَرحَمنا لَنَكونَنَّ مِنَ الخٰسِرينَ [SURAH AL-A`RAF, VERSE 23] Du'a of Yunus (A.S) repenting to Allah in the belly of the whale: “ LAA ILAAHA ILLAA ANTA SUBHAANAKA INNY KUNTU MINATHAULIMEEN” [21:87] “There is none worthy of worship except You. You are pure. Verily I am amongst the oppressors.” [Al-‘Anbya’ 87] Prophet Muhammad (Peace and Blessings be upon him) said about the Invocation of Yunus “None who is experiencing difficulty employs it except that Allah would relieve him of his difficulty.” [At-Tirmidhi] Nooh (A.S) asked for the forgiveness of Allaah The Almighty, repenting by saying: Rabbi Inneee A-o’od’u Bika An As-alaka Maa Laysa Lee Bihee I’lm Wa Illaa Taghfirlee Wa Tarh’amneee Akum Minal Khaasireen [11:47] “My Lord, I seek refuge in You from asking that of which I have no knowledge. And unless You forgive me and have mercy upon me, I will be among the losers.” (Surat Hūd, 11: 47) We must recite this dua’a to have full faith in the wisdom of Allah under all good and bad circumstances because Allah is all-knowing; and humbly seek His help to keep ourselves on the right path. Say: Allahumma innaka ‘afuwwun, tuhibbul-‘afwa, fa’fu ‘anni. (O Allah, You are Most Forgiving, and You love forgiveness; so forgive me). Say: Astaghfirullah al-ladhi la ilaha illa huwal hayyul qayyum wa atubu ilayhi It says in hadith, whoever says it seven times his sins will be forgiven even if he should have run away from the battlefield. Say: SubhanAllah wa bihamdihi Whoever says it hundred times, his sins will be forgiven even though they may be as much as the foam of the sea. Say: la ilaha illallahu wahdahu la shareeka lah lahul mulku wa lahaul hamdu wa huwa a la kuli shay’in qadeer. And say the many other forms of repentance that are prescribed by Allah. ALLAH HAS FULL ABILITY TO GIVE YOU ANYTHING YOU WANT! AND ONLY HE (ALLAH) HAS THAT ABILITY. The Prophet ﷺ said, “Verily your Lord is Generous and Shy. If His servant raises his hands to Him (in supplication). He becomes shy to return them empty.” [Ahmad, Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi] .....

At 40:47 Brother Nauman should add that Prophet Moosa could face jail because of Strength ( the guy he killed by mistake because of protecting other guy ) Prophet Yousuf went to Jail because he was so beautiful and was protecting himself from that lady’s plan.

Peace of Allah be upon you Ustad Nouman , that's a gem series of comparative analyses between 2great prophets of Allah.Never has such deep research been done by any scholar. This is a good example of how wise Mr Nouman has become thanks to the clear visions he has developed into the details of our Holly book.l am amazed at the treasures he can extrapolate from the stories of These prophets. All l can say is that by following the pursuit of Arabic learning and the search into the tafseers of old and modern interpreters Mr Nouman has acquired the wisdom he missed when he was studying accountancy .Well the lesson that can be learnt is that , unlike, prophets knowledge and wisdom are sought and fought for by us regular folks .Our prophet peace and blessings be upon him is the greatest example of this gifted combination of wisdom and knowledge in one take, without schooling or studying.May Allah increase us in knowledge and lift this ordeal of this pandemic.Thank you Ustad Nouman Wajazak Allaho khayran .
