Aw man... I'm missing some readings! Now I'm off researching CRI and DUV. :) Hey thanks for the feedback! We have more content in the works, so keep watching.
@BILLYBOBJohnson-kj2zd2 жыл бұрын
@@WerkzHolsters The flashlight nerd in me just had to :). CRI stands for color rendering index, which a bit hard to explain but is essentially how faithful the colors are to natural (sun) lighting. Average LED's are around 70 or lower DUV is how far above or below the black body line the light is, meaning it will have a more green or rosy tint respectively. Both are pretty irrelevant to weapon lights. Great job with the video and look forward to more.
@WerkzHolsters2 жыл бұрын
@@BILLYBOBJohnson-kj2zd Thanks for the summary! So no value in measuring CRI or DUV? We covered with light temp & spectrometer?
@BILLYBOBJohnson-kj2zd2 жыл бұрын
@@WerkzHolsters I'd say CRI and DUV are pretty irrelevant to WML's because DUV is arguably subjective (some people prefer more neutral, some prefer rosy, etc) and emitters which prioritize hi CRI tend to sacrifice some efficiency, so they produce less lumens and candela than their hi-cri counterparts. The Osram LED emitters used in the Modlite OKW, for example, are pretty low CRI and blue at around 6000k color temp. I don't know what emitter the XSC and TLR7-sub use, but most likely a 90+ CRI emitter of similar size would not produce as many lumens & candela. Also since there aren't any hi-CRI WML's I know of, measuring it doesn't make a ton of sense. Just my 2c.

Excellent video. The TLR7sub can't really be beat unless you want something super compact, then get the XSC. I'm working on getting a P365XL and the TLR7sub is a perfect candidate for it, and the added bonus of the light extending past the muzzle to act also as a standoff device as well.

@jasoncox3402 Жыл бұрын
You are not wrong, but Streamlight for whatever reason, does not recommend them, and I believe it will void the warranty with the TLR7 Sub. I just ordered my TLR7 Sub, so I'm not a fan boy of SF, just letting you know.... I was thinking the same as you and tried looking it up, and I believe that Info. was from Mr. Gunsngear
@7blueblaze6 ай бұрын
Couldn't see why it would void the warranty, but you may be right. I have a Tactical police flashlight with the larger sized cr123 doubled Rechargeable) to replace the double set. It has amazingky lasted heavily used over 15 years and still using it with 650 lumens light output. Seems companies don't seem to be fans of Rechargeable batteries for high output type devices light lights etc due to quicker loss of output over the typical desired power and life. They may feel they'd get more poor reviews and returns when people put Rechargeables in them. Also their are various Rechargeable with mixed results and actual quality issues and performers in that market that also could skew capability and premature working performance. Makes sense they would discourage rechargeableas. Also given these only use one of the smaller single cr123 battery in 5he TLR unlike the one I use mentioned above, where I replaced (actually at the show where I purchased it, they sold me the double sized to replace the 2 batteries the Tactical light called for.

I found this video about a year late! LOL None the less I really like your presentation because I went back and forth on these lights before buying. I have been running the XSC for almost two years. I bought several extra batteries just in case as well. At the time both lights were really hard to come by. The TLR wasn't to be found yet when I had already bought the XSC. That said the XSC is in my opinion fine for conceal carry. In that regard 10 minutes is plenty for concealed carry. I also always carry another light source as well. If someone needs to change a tire in the dark I don't want to be waiving my pistol around. That said to me the run time difference is generally a non issue at least for my purposes. That said I am more than willing to learn about situations where a longer run time would be beneficial. I also would like to try the TLR7's switches to see if I prefer them or not.

@@WerkzHolsters Update: I bought a TLR-7 Sub on a whim. After doing a head to head comparison on my own to me I plan to switch to the Streamlight. My comparison has nothing to do with lumens or light output, but rather that the Streamlight has a lot better ergonomics. Basically I feel like I have a lot better control over light activation with the Streamlight without compromising my grip. I also really like the tactile buttons on the Streamlight over the Surefire. For me all the other 'pros' are good, but not really a tie breaker. The controls though--that to me is huge.

Seriously LOVE LOVE LOVE my 365xl. I do happen to shoot the comparative glock model (can't remember the # designation) slightly better due to the wider grip but the xl carries SO well and I find the nice flat trigger to be more than usable. I took to wrapping the grip in a bit of that foam medical bandage wrap stuff they put on you when you get blood drawn to fatten it up and it helps it fill the hand a bit better and shoot just as well as the glock.

Great and helpful review, but the spectrum analysis was mistaken. The X-axis was labeled "Frequency (NM)". Frequency is in Hertz, wavelength is in nanometers, and the numbers were definitely wavelength. Wavelengths in the 400s are blue light, so the 'left' side of that graph is actually the 'cooler' or bluer light. The flat top on the large hump for the TLR is probably topping out what the equipment can measure; there's no way that's the true curve of what's produced. Still, I applaud not only the standardized tests, but hard data to go with them.

They make awesome holsters that feel like they index off of the light and the gun for a great lock up. The sub is impressive, tlr-7 power in smaller package for the same money. You can’t go wrong. The competition is that new Baldr S and it’s 800 lumens with same footprint as the Baldr Mini. Same bright green laser in the light too, rechargeable lights are amazing!
@WerkzHolsters3 жыл бұрын
Excellent feedback Joe, thanks. We are making holsters for the Baldr S, and those will be available with the Baldr S launch. However, the Baldr S is somewhat larger than the Baldr Mini; I would say the Baldr S is between a compact and full size light. I don't think it's a great match for the subcompact pistols., and it doesn't fit properly on the factory P365 frame. I do wonder if Olight will be working on a light for subcompact pistols with proprietary rails (P365 / G43xMOS)...

I can't imagine just what exactly Surefire must be doing so much better to warrant what is usually at least double the the price of a similar Streamlight given that Streamlight isn't slacking on quality construction. With these two models at least, it appears that Surefire really isn't doing anything at least in performance to justify (at this point in time on Optics Planet) its 2.5X price over the Streamlight.

Seems to me both of these light are adequate given what the P365 was designed for . . . personal protection in close quarters, not long range shooting. People who say either one is not bright enough should simply consider a larger gun with a larger light. Given where technology is at the current moment, I personally feel both of the these are good 'reliable' choices. Sure, it's 'possible' to give off more light out of this size platform, but it may come at the cost of reliability which I'd never want to sacrifice when it comes to personal protection. I really like Surefire for it's size and ergonomics. . . that price is just a bit hard to stomach. Hoping the price comes down, or there is a sale at some point. Thanks for the great review.

The only thing surefire has going for it is durability. And honestly the majority of their lights are under powered for the price. Like what good is a unbreakable light if it doesn't even light up what you need it to light up

Ken, I agree that the Surefire is durable, but check out our other videos for torture tests... many of the manufacturers have stepped up their games and made some -tough- lights.

If ya want a WML thats damages your rail and will chew through your 365 module, the TLR7 SUB is your light! You can't tighten it down enough to prevent it from sliding on the rail and depending on where you place your support hand index finger any forward pressure while shooting will cause the mount to cut its way through the polymer. Until they figure out a way to secure this to the trigger guard avoid this light. Its a dumpster fire

FYI, Streamlight is working on a fix. Saw it on a Reddit by someone this morning. Make sure to reach out to Streamlight customer service to get added to the list when the new clamp is released so they can send it out. They said 2 to 3 Weeks.

Will the holster fit the 1913 version of the TLR7 sub on a tactical development rail ?
@WerkzHolsters3 жыл бұрын
Cannot imagine it would since the rail would put the light lower.

I absolutely hate the TLR 7 sub on my p365 xl. The light buttons hinder my trigger guard and is a big issue and too bulky when practicing draw, purchase and trigger acquisition . If it went forward a bit more on the rail it may be okay but I don’t like it.

Can you comment on how tall the sight channel area of the M6 holster is above the slide? I'm a fan of plenty of clearance and I like having the loops or hooks outbound on the sides rather than stacked on the middle, but ever since someone pointed out how the M6 seemed to have an excessive dimension in that area, I keep focusing on that and it's holding me back from choosing that holster. In this case, the configuration is a G48 MOS TLR-7 SUB, but I may get that light for a P365 as well. Is there a rationale for how large the M6 is past both the top of the slide and the mounting holes? It seems way taller than any suppressor sights I've ever seen so maybe there's a good reason.

EDIT: Our owner is about to answer this a bit more in-depth than I. Give him just a second to finish his response! Great question! We've had a lot of customers run tall sights that are above standard. I believe our last measuring is that the sight channel is about 1/2 an inch in height total in exterior. Not only will this allow for practically any sights to be run, but we haven't found any issue of comfort while using the holster either. By adding a .1" or .2" extra height to these holsters from our previous designs, they're more accessible for everyone, without coming with any severe cons. Our tests have come with no issues in concealment, comfort, or security. That said - if you pick it up and don't like it, please note that we have a 30 day return policy. Just send us an email and we can get it back! Hope that helps!

Excellent insightful question. We try to trim all the extra unnecessary material from our holsters, keeping them as small as they can be while still performing their job. That's why we fully undercut the trigger guard area, more so than most others. We can still get good lockup and reduce "rock" for the holstered pistol or pistol/light without that extra material. Our sight channel has become a bit taller in the last year. We have found that by adding some distance between the fold and the top of the slide, we reduce the chance that a holster is retaining on the slide. We want your slide to be able to rack while holstered without interference. We had found that due to manufacturing tolerances on some pistols, aftermarket slides, and coatings, we could have some unwanted friction on the slide. By moving the fold a little further from the top of the slide, we benefit from a little more flex, and less sensitivity to those differences. (Note: Glock slides are incredibly consistent, but aftermarket, coatings, and other pistol manufacturers can vary widely.) We have not noticed any difference while wearing the holster. On a Glock G19, I measure ~21mm from top of slide to inner radius of the fold. I could pull maybe 4mm of that out before the fold has a chance of deforming the slide accessory holes. One other note is that we spend a lot of time trying to get a click for holster retention on pistols with lights, plus we work to have the pistol not rattle in the holster, or "rock" when holstered. Getting the right amount of support on the slide is a necessary part of that. We would reduce that sight channel height if we could do so reliably across the range of pistols and pistol modifications our customers use. If you would like to talk more about this, or any design features you would like to see in our gear, feel free to call customer service. They would take your number and I could call you at some point in my day.
