Is this route at all possible on a rigid gravel bike rather than mountain bike? If not, are there any gravel-bike friendly routes you recommend? Planning to be passing through the alps from Lucerne to Lugano

Disclaimer: I have never ridden a gravel bike. Still, I'm quite sure this trail is NOT suited for a gravel bike. Even with a full-suspension mountain bike, this tour is quite a challenge. As I do not ride gravel bikes, I do not really have any recommendations either.
