This was a cute doll, and I had it back in the day, but I was always disappointed with it. I was big into vintage Barbie in the 90s, and these early repros just did not live up to the fabulousness of the vintage originals for me. I had a vintage Enchanted Evening fashion, and the level of finish on the original dress was just so far and above this repro, I couldn't help but be underwhelmed. Seeing your video, I'm tempted to pick up one of these and give it a 'vintage makeover', altering the dress, face paint and hairstyle to make it more closely resemble the original vintage dolls. I don't know why Mattel always takes a left turn with these dolls, and makes them so markedly different from the vintage originals we all love. They did this recently with the 75th Anniversary Silkstone #1, mainly with the doll's hair. I of course had to restyle that doll's hair, and now it looks much more like a #1, but it's always surprising to me that they haven't ever been able or willing to accurately match the sort of orange-yellow hair color of the early blonde Barbie dolls. And the rooting pattern is very different, with the doll's curly bangs falling down onto the doll's forehead, touching the brows, rather than being a clump of poodle curls at the front hairline, as the original doll had. Those early dolls had miles of forehead showing, and having the long shaggy bangs is a dead giveaway that you're looking at a repro doll, and it's such an easy thing to get right. Anyway, that's my repro rant for the day. I do have to give Mattel lots of props for making the repro fashions so extraordinary nowadays. They have come a long way from the plastic snaps and the budget fabrics of these early repros.

I have the original from the 60’s. It’s so pretty. Fun fact, there was two versions of enchanted evening. The first one actually has sequins and beads at the waist. The second one has a rose. I have the first version

WOW, I purchased five reproductions on the secondary market for $50.00 (Very Obtainable) and decided to debox them and use for OOAK fashions. Enchanted Evening has thick bushie bangs so I plucked them and restyled her hair into a “side part swoosh bang”. For some reason I feel that her eyebrows are too orange (auburn) and should have been a darker shade of brown especially with the bright red lipstick. Great review as always! Stay Healthy!

So much more detailed with quality and care than in most Barbies made now, and yet much more affordable than so many other fashion model dolls. Do you notice that the only way to remove her necklace is by removing her head... Oh, so reminiscent of the 1960's Barbies.

This gorgeous doll was $20 when she came out...I bought several for $10 on clearance. I prefer the blonde, her hair is a stunning shade of white! FYI the 50th anniversary 1962 swimsuit brunette bubble cut doll comes with a much more detailed/ true-to-the original enchanted evening fashion, and is relatively inexpensive on the secondary market.
