Oh Suresh, I’ve been thinking about this past week and hoping you were well. Whew, not ill, you look fabulous. I’m sitting here, watching the vid, and wondering to myself why someone, somewhere, hasn’t made a Rosa Parks doll before now. Brilliant that someone finally did. If my collection wasn’t so large (and undisplayable), I’d get her immediately. When I think of her, I’m always amazed at the guts this woman had to sit there and not move when told to move. I do not think I’d have been that brave. An American hero, absolutely.

Lovely presentation of this beautiful Rosa Parks doll. Thank you Suresh for this very detailed critique. I am looking forward to finding one for myself. I find it curious that the mint in box dolls on eBay are nearly the same price as the nude dolls. I do like a challenge of creating the fashions appropriately and as close in detail as the originals for nude dolls that I find at thrift stores, but it is tempting to just buy her mint in box so I could also have all the wonderful accessories such as her shoes, glasses and gloves. She really is a lovely doll. Thank you!

Hi Suresh, I remembered my great aunt made several dresses that looked a lot like Rosa's. She also had shoes something like the dolls but she called them oxfords. My mother referred to aunt Edith's shoes as borgues (sp). Either way I thought my aunt to be quite lovely and very talented to make her own dresses and also had aprons to match. By the way I'm a child of the 60's.

It's so important nowadays and anytime actually. Keep doing a great job! Have you considered buying and reviewing Josephine Baker doll by Integrity toys? I've read about this lady recently and was amazed by her biography. Despite she's often seen mostly as dancer and entertainer she was actually a French Resistance agent during WW2, an officer and a civil rights activist. It'd be great to see her on your channel or IGTV

Well Suresh, I must say - quality does not belongs to collectors dolls anymore, it's even worst for playline. 6 years ago Black Label dolls used to stand up with quality and playline dolls were getting worse all the time. As a collector from latin america I can say how hard it is for us pay for a Barbie doll once our money / our currency is worth 4/5 times less than the dollar. I support diversity with dolls, but I can't stand up for bad quality - not once for many people in the world getting a Barbie doll is about financial sacrife or take a lot of planning. This doll has at least a decent quality, but I can see the difference comparing to years ago. As always, great reviews. I can see u put a lot of effort to show us the doll, it's a nice thing from u. Can't wait for more !

I think it's also important for parents who are buying dolls for their kids to buy lots of different kinds of dolls. I grew up in the 70s, and even though I am white, I had black dolls as well as white dolls, and as a collector I've always bought dolls of every apparent ethnic type that was available. I remember always just wanting something besides the typical blonde dolls, so when there was an option for a black doll, a brunette doll, a redhead doll, or a 'Hispanic' doll, I would always want to add them to my collection. I think having diverse toys early on is what laid the groundwork for having a diverse collection during my entire collecting 'career'. One of my favorite collections to this day is the 80s International series. It was kind of a kitschy costume collection in a lot of ways, but I love to buy the dolls to redress in the fashions of the era. Mattel's first forays into inclusivity were not always perfect, but I always appreciated that I could at least buy these diverse dolls. There was also an effort to incorporate black versions of the standard Barbie dolls, and an effort to explicitly show that Barbie's friend group was inclusive by having Christie or Cara alongside Barbie during those years. To this day, the 'classic' lineup of Barbie's world is Barbie, Ken, Christie, P.J., and Skipper. And that's why I think it's important that parents nowadays reinforce the idea of diversity in their kids' toys. I also think parents should try as hard as they can to send their kids to diverse schools. Segregated schools reinforce all the regressive ideas, which is why regressive people try so hard to keep schools segregated. They know if their kids actually meet other kids who don't look like them, they'll see racism for what it is and will disavow it completely. I did not get every doll in the Inspiring Women series, but I did get Rosa Parks and Katherine Johnson and I think a couple of others. They're still in their boxes, but your video is making me want to debox them. :)

I grew up with more ethnic dolls than the white ones(as an adult, my mother told me I got more of them because they were almost always clearance priced). I loved & played with them more then the white Barbie's. They seemed more beautiful and real... but that was in the late 1970's & early 80's. The dolls I see now are no where near the quality that they once were. That being said, I am going to buy this lovely doll for my niece. She is very young and I hope she picks up the valuable lesson this doll can teach her and have fun...of course. Thank you once again for a wonderful review. I was saddened to hear that your views and comments on ethnic dolls was lower than the other ones. Let's hope this review will change that theme. Sending love & warm thoughts.

My daughter is 4 and getting into dolls specifically Barbie and her excitement has reignited my own childhood enjoyment of Barbie dolls. We are very into the fashionista dolls and really enjoy the diversity. We have at least 5 black and another 5 or so brown dolls and they are gorgeous! We dress and redress dolls and put on fashion shows. My daughter loves Brooklyn from the barbie movie and thats her go to doll for play. No lie I get a little jealous cause I want to play with her too but I enjoy all our diverse dolls. I guess my point is that I agree with you…buy black dolls not just to encourage diversity but because they are freaking beautiful!

I've only found out who Rosa Parks is very recently, that's not something we're taught at school (Ukraine). Nothing to be proud about. Thanks Doctor Who and Matel, I guess. Anyway, the doll is so sweet. I'm completely enamored with her dress and shoes, they really tried to make her period-appropriate. And yes, you're so right that Barbie dolls are made differently. They're designed with kids in mind first and foremost, not adults, and for a doll meant for kids this one was made with attention to the details. Now I'm curious who else is in this doll line. Thank you for a wonderful review!

I love this doll! I wish they would have taken the attention to detail all the way through the doll like they did for her head. I love the baby hairs, the glasses and the pillbox hat, but the coat and shoes needed a little more finishing touches for me. I understand that the target audience may have been a bit younger, but when you're doing a line called "Inspiring Women", I think the smaller details are important. It's a line that both younger and older audience is going to appreciate. A nice lining and some subtle paint on the shoes to give it a bit more depth. For Barbie, I know she's not shy of using Velcro in her wardrobe, so that doesn't really bother me, but the lack of lining on the parts you're going to see does. Monster High and Ever After High had way more care to the smaller details and they were play-line dolls. Overall, she is a beautiful doll. Very humble, brave and sweet. She is a top favorite of mine and I am so happy to have her in my collection.
