Excellent video. I'm a tin man myself and always enjoy hearing Ralph Votta talk tins. I am amazed how they are not used by more fishermen. I've caught more fish, fresh and salt, using tins than any other and all other lures combined.

salt water, same spot: one day its the metal jig bite; next day its plastics, next few weeks its jig heads and plastics; some days its live bait only... can't be afraid to try different stuff, but be a specialist at what you use, and use it often to become good at it, and you'll always catch fish.

I gotta tell ya, I’ve fished with buck tails following Zeno (caught dogfish) all plugs following Skinner, missed a few using tsunami xd, I watched this vid 6/10/20, had a 3.5 oz hammered finish tin in my arsenal, used it the next day in the Cape May Canal & caught my first striper of the season on the third cast. Granted it was 3” shy of a keeper but it produced. Unfortunately, I lost the tin 2 casts later in the rocks, but did I ever get a hard-on. Going out to purchase some more. Thx bro. Really digging the lessons & applying them all along the Cape May shores, bay & canals. It’s hit or miss in this neck of the woods. Seems clams & bunker at night are producing but I really want to use lures. Keep the vids coming my friend.

Block tin is a combination of tin & lead, lighter as Ralph said & I believe also they could be shined up just by rubbing in the sand (not sure he mentioned that). I like that he carries a toothbrush for manicuring hook hair & the J hook for easily releasing single hooked fish, doesn't work so well w/trebels ...

Is he using a penn 704 reel? What kind of rod is he using?

Reel is a Penn & seems to be manual pickup, assume the rod is a lamiglas, w/old school Mildrum guides, tho' the last several are different.

I like using the few tins i have, they are hard to find. Block tins that is, regular metals are everywhere.

Here in So. Cal. we use Kastmasters, Crocodiles or maybe a Hopkins. All sizes. Are these all as you say, tin fish? Thanks for the info.

Yes over in the north east anything that is shiny metal and sinks falls into the category of “tins” lol we use those same ones u mentioned over here and while they are extremely deadly on the striped bass and blues fish they will tend to stay higher in the water column than the ones he mentioned based on there shape so if it’s a really rough day and the bass are hugging the bottom, some of the brands he mentioned will get down in the strike zone a little bit easier

Tin is a loose term for any lure that is mostly metal. Some jigs can also be considered tins ie: diamond jigs, spoon jigs etc

Fixed hook tins with a nice dressing my go to lure. Been fishing them since the 70s. Real tin not tin coated lead . Tin fishes way better than.
