Surf Fishing At Crystal Beach

This was a fun one!
We’re down at Crystal Beach in Tx on our family vacation.
I decided to bring the surf rods in hopes of finding some big reds and sharks!
Unfortunately we didn’t catch any big ones. Well I did catch like a 35” red on this trip but that was it!
On this day we probably caught around 25 sharks. A big wave of #blacktip #sharks came in and it was ON!
The best bait was fresh Shad, mullet and hard head catfish. They make incredible shark bait!

Oh yes it was a blast! I was hoping to get a couple of 40” reds on camera but it’s all good. This was definitely a good time with the family. My little boy loved reeling in the reels.

What time of the year was this? Water looks pretty good for Crystal Beach, and the crowd was down.

This was at the end of September last year. My gosh it was beautiful for crystal. We spent a few days down here. The first day we got there you could see about 3’ down and we never caught the first fish! I think that drought last year really helped us with clean water. Even Sabine where I do a lot of fishing was crystal clear.

Sure seems to be a lot more sharks this year.

I think the drought helped with that. I know they were all over the Sabine this year. I really wish I could have dedicated a couple days to monster shark fish. Next summer I’m going to.

@@lanceduff I know I had trout on this year that sharks ate while reeling them in. A first for me in 6’ or less water depth
