Good video. I grew up in Gulfport and I enjoyed wade fishing along the beach, catching a lot of specks and white trout. The hard heads and croakers were always a problem.

A good time to go floundering at night. Oh yeah good time to go crabbing to🤗 mullet are really good eating if you have a cast net. They are called Biloxi bacon because they got that name back during the depression.

Great video! We moved to the Mississippi Gulf Coast about 2 years ago and I haven't gotten to do much fishing and don't have much experience saltwater fishing. I would LOVE to catch some redfish and speckled trout. Gonna try my luck soon.
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Dan Burdette let me know how you do! This time of year is perfect for fishing. The water is clearer. Use some live bait for trout, or toss a gulp shrimp with a 1/8th ounce jig head. For reds, try cut bait out. You’ll also catch them on live bait.

Some folks look down on hard head cats. I did growing up then I ate some and they are excellent eating and very plentiful. I'm telling you they are good.a pain to clean like any catfish but they are good. Go ahead and try one.
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Craig, I’m gonna have to take you up on this challenge. Next time I go to the coast, I’ll keep a few. How do you suggest i cook then? Just fry them up?
@craigjacob37044 жыл бұрын
Yes that's the way I ate them fry'd up. Just use a good knife cut the fillets off the fish flip the fillet and cut the meat off if the skin. We were fishing in ocean springs by the bridge by the harbour not sure if it's even still there. I was throwing catfish carcasses back in the water and a dang pelican bit me mid air snatching the fish out of my hand. They were small fillets but they tasted just as good as any catfish I'd ever eaten and like you up till that point iwas always told they were trash fish . I'm telling you like you said they are a nusiance while fishing but it doesn't take long to fill a cooler up with them. Hey if you decide you don't like them well put them in the garden for soil amendment. I tell you I'm pretty picky when it comes to saltwater fish . These hardheads are pretty dang tasty.
@BryTunesMusic2 жыл бұрын
One of the best explanations of where to try to put the cast, thank yo. What beach is that please? Guess a pompano rig would reduce hardheads? Thanks much :)
@Radioactivhuntr4 жыл бұрын
Nice video I live close to where you fish never caught a redfish from surf fishing just hard head after hard head 😞
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Just gotta keep on trucking! Try larger live baits. Usually live will help keep the trash fish off. If that doesn’t work, try casting a little deeper, or even throwing with some sort of float to keep it up off the bottom. You can never really avoid them. Just have to wade through them. Good luck! Let me know if you catch one. It’s that time of year.
@Radioactivhuntr4 жыл бұрын
On the Chase Outdoors I’m about to go fishing can you recommend a time and a place I want to catch a redfish so if you can give me the best time and place that would be awesome
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Anywhere and any time! I’m not from the area, I was just visiting. But really any time you can go this time of year is great. And anywhere along the coast. Just try to aim for the guts between the waves.

You can always try Moses pier. We use to take a ice chest and a lawn chair maybe a little radio and sit out all night.
@ashtonhogue76465 жыл бұрын
Hey just wanna let you know that wade fishing would be better preferred Bc it pretty shallow to wave fish.
@OntheChase5 жыл бұрын
Ashton Hogue I agree! Unfortunately I wasn’t even supposed to be in the water due to the blue/green algae bloom. I didn’t want to soak too much.
@ashtonhogue76465 жыл бұрын
On the Chase Outdoors yes sir, that makes more sense but I don’t think anything is wrong with it bc I’ve been wade fishing and stuff all summer and nothin happened. But it’s good to have safety risk... the waters by the Silver Slipper casino is a great red and speckle trout spot

What size hook you use?
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
Keith Bunn usually I’ll use around a 1/0 circle or octopus circle. I’m not a huge fan of J hooks. If I’m going for larger fish only, I’ll size it up to a 7/0 or larger circle
@keithbunn91184 жыл бұрын
@@OntheChase you use a 10' pole? 20 or 30 braided line?
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
For surf fishing, I keep it small. 7 or 8 foot medium heavy rods work well. If you aren’t casting it far enough, you can go longer. 30 pound braid works well enough. Braid because no stretch. If you’re fishing where there’s a chance to hook into a shark, and you’re interested in that (anything less than 6’), then size up to 50-65 pound braid.
@keithbunn91184 жыл бұрын
@@OntheChase thanks for all the info. Never fished in saltwater before. One last question, you recommend 3000, 4000 or 5000 reel?
@OntheChase4 жыл бұрын
No problem! For surf fishing I like a 3500 size. Something that can hold about 200-250 yards of 10 pound diameter line (your 30 pound braid will be about that diameter). I like light tackle, though. I feel silly when I go too large.
