Surf Fishing in Destin Florida for pompano during spring break. unfortunately i was a few weeks early to get the full pomp run that the locals get to enjoy but still had some luck despite some rough waves and tons of sea grass constantly catching on my line. I managed to catch a few fish too.

I'll be back for spring break. Never know what you might catch. I have heard fishing the jettys is nice too but never got over to them.

Jettys in St. Andrew are great too. Just can't carry a lot of equipment. That's the downfall.@@easonadventures

Dang, it’s a rare occasion when sand fleas so clearly out perform Fish bites, but that was some serious fish slaying! I’ll be in Destin in early September so not sure what’ll be hot (other than the water), but will definitely bring a sand flea scooper! Btw, that 16 incher was a beast Pompano for a surf catch in that area! I believe it’s the biggest I seen caught among several different NW FL fishing channels! Pomp probably won’t be as abundant when I’m there, as it’s the hottest part of the year, but I hear Spanish, Bonito, Reds, Blues, and hard tails (Blue Runner) are good for top water fishing this time of year. Great vid, dude! It’s getting me psyched! 🤙

Love the video! Will be in the Destin area at the end of August and was hoping to get out with the kids and do some surf fishing. It’ll be my first time doing something of this sort and am looking forward to it. Any tips or beaches/areas that I can try out around that time? Been watching all kinds of Destin surf fishing videos and I am stoked! Thanks in advance!

I’m not from Destin so the couple videos I have are just directly in front of the house we have rented. Not sure of spots that would be better. Biggest thing is make sure your sinker is big enough to hold the bait in one place 3oz or bigger if any kind of waves. If you can get sand fleas they seem to be the ticket. I did my research based off March fish runs(mostly pompano) Just Google which fish are running in the august season.

What rod and reel size do you use? Starting to surf fish out in Destin myself. Thanks.

I caught a big jack crevalle on a 3000 size reel and a 6'6 rod with 12 lb test mono So it's not that important but I currently use a 9 and a 10 foot rod with 5000 size reels just in case. The braided line makes a huge difference in windy/wavy conditions (higher lb rating and smaller diameter)

Yep I just refurbished the smaller one and got it back up and running. They were my dads reels so looking to keep them forever!

Runs April til mid may. Seems like I was early though so hopefully it’ll run a little later for you too. They would still be around no matter what but just not as concentrated as the peak times.
