Surf From Above: Ocean Beach Goes Off

It has been said, many times, that a picture tells a thousand words. In the case of Ocean Beach, San Francisco, on a few bluebird, late fall days with the same long period swell that had hit Pipeline a couple days earlier, a picture actually tells a thousand lies. Beautiful, offshore, groomed lies. Way easier to mindsurf than actually surf. Average wave count, based on multiple sources who spent most of the day in the water, came in at around one ride per hour. Average duckdive count, well into the double digits. Still, it’s a beautiful sight, especially in retrospect, and especially consumed vicariously.

Yeah brah just wait for in between sets and paddle out there. Shouldn't take more than a couple minutes. Just go right to where all the other fellas are hanging out and they'll coach you into a few good ones. Probably after they'll invite you to the bonfire on the beach and introduce you to some cute girls. Have fun!

This isn't even that good of a day if you ask me. A day like this is more for people trying to get the "best wave of their life" but it's not actually nearly as good for general surfing/barrels/fun as a nice fall day with offshores and crossed up NW/SW swell. Of course that also rarely happens (but more likely under La Niña)

Surfline is ruining Ocean Beach. After Surfline started posting videos of OB it became a freaking zoo. It’s been so crowded lately with people coming from everywhere to surf here. It’s getting as busy as SoCal

7 miles of sand bars from kelly’s to mussel rock. You can find a solo peak even on the most epic day. Funston looked epic on this day and there was one guy out. This area will never be crowded, imagine being a Bali local.
